PERCENTILES Grouped

The document provides a formula for calculating percentiles from grouped frequency data. It then gives an example of calculating the 15th, 50th, and 93rd percentiles (P15, P50, P93) from frequency data of plastic bottle weights collected from 50 houses. It also calculates the 45th, 68th, and 89th percentiles (P45, P68, P89) from frequency data of the number of mistakes made on a quiz by 42 students.

Formula for Percentile of Grouped Data:

Pk = LB + ( 100
fPk
)i
where:
LB = lower boundary of the 𝑃𝑘 class
N = total frequency
cfb = cumulative frequency of the class before the 𝑃𝑘 class
fPk = Frequency of the 𝑃𝑘 class
i = size of the class interval
k = nth decile, where n = 1, 2, 3, …99

The table is the distribution of the number of mistakes 42
students made in solving a 20-item quiz. Calculate the 𝑃45 ,
𝑃68 and 𝑃89 of the number of mistakes given the frequency.
