1. Ensure all drill areas have been scanned for electric cables.
6. Erect barricades and clear no-entry signs to areas where drilling or coring is in progress
and isolate the area below drill sites on horizontal slabs with either a spotter or danger
signs.
1. Ensure holes have been marked and centres given with a waterproof crayon or permanent
marker.
2. Secure the core drill with anchor bolts or in accordance with the manufacturer’s
specifications.
3. Ensure the drill machine is solidly fixed with no movement of the mast.
5. Start the drilling of all holes in low gear, stopping the motor before changing to a higher gear
and operate the machine in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
6. Feed tap pressure water into the hole to bring up slurry and keep the hole saw bit cool.
7. Where possible, fill holes or fit safety covers over drilled core holes and attach warning signs
if necessary.

4) SAFE WORK PROCEDURE FOR WIRE SAW CUTTING
PRE OPERATION
1. Don’t attempt to use the pneumatic saw system without having received the appropriate
training
2. Approval must be obtained from the site engineer or site management before sawing.
3. Ensure that there are no concealed gas, water, electricity or other supply lines in the area in
which sawing work is to be carried out.
4. Make sure sufficient space is available for working safely. If possible, the wire saw should be
set up on the floor in an upright position.
5. Make sure there are no objects such as scaffolding etc. within the wire whiplash area. In the
event of wire breakage, the whiplashing end of the wire may be deflected in an unexpected
direction by such objects.
6. The area in front of, behind or below the surface where sawing work or drilling is to be
carried out must be secured in such a way that persons or equipment cannot be injured or
damaged by falling blocks of concrete or by concrete slurry.
7. Check the entire system, accessories, power unit, electric cables, hydraulic hoses and
accessories for damage and proper functioning before use. Check that all parts have been
assembled correctly and consider all other factors that could influence operation of the
equipment.
8. Safety measures must be implemented in the area where sawing is taking place so that
operators and bystanders cannot be injured or property damaged by a broken sawing wire
or debris that may fly off during the sawing operation. Safety measures must also be
implemented in the area not directly visible to the operator, i.e. behind where sawing is
taking place.
9. Personnel must NEVER enter the danger area while sawing is in progress.
10. The danger area (wire fly) has a radius of at least twice the free length of wire that would be
unleashed in the event of wire breakage. The danger area cannot be limited unless suitable
means of protection are employed (protective walls, curtains or wire guards etc.).
11. The operator is responsible for cordoning off the area. If necessary, safety personnel must
be posted to prevent access to a wide area around the workplace.
1. Never connect or disconnect hydraulic/pneumatic hoses while the power unit is running or
while the hoses are under pressure
7

2. Wear suitable clothing. Don’t wear loose clothing or jewellery which could become caught
in moving parts of the machinery. Wear a hard had, protective goggles, protective gloves,
3. Safety shoes, ear protectors and a hairnet if you have long hair. A face mask should be worn
to protect the respiratory system when working in enclosed areas.
5. Disconnect the electric extension cable from the mains supply when the equipment is not in
use, during transportation and before inspection or maintenance. Ensure that the hydraulic
power unit is switched off before changing the diamond wire or before adjusting the
position of the guide pulleys. As an additional safety measure, it is recommended that the
EMERGENCY STOP button is pressed and left in the OFF position.
6. If the wire is to be used again at a later date, ensure it is allowed to dry thoroughly and
stored in a dry area to prevent rusting of the strands which tends to lead to breakages
1. Regular check and maintain the equipment by a competent person and all records should be kept in
writing.
2. Ensure that the operators are trained and conversant with the equipment.
3. Check the conditions of the compressor, the connecting pipes, hoses, electric cables, breaking blade
and fittings before use.
5. Ensure that suitable personal protective equipment including eye goggles. Ear mufflers, respirator,
gloves and safety footwear etc. are used during work.
7. Keep the cables clear of people and other traffic to avoid tripping and/or damages.
8. Do not operate the equipment for any other purposes than that for which it is intended.
9. Do not used the breaker for prolonged periods as the vibration and noise generated would cause
discomfort and fatigue to the operators.
10. Fence the area off if appropriate to avoid trespassers and to protect workers from vehicular traffic.
11. Ensure that Noise assessment Report, if appropriate, is prepared and post warning notices in the
areas affected.
12. Ensure that the breaker blades are secured properly before starting operation and every time they
are replaced.
8

14. Watch out for underground utilities during breaking.
15. Wear a safety harness with an independent life line fixed to an anchorage point when breaking up
large outcrop or boulders on a slope. Fall arresting device should also be provided for the equipment
if deemed necessary.
16. Regular check and maintain the equipment by a competent person and all records should be kept in
writing.
17. Ensure that the operators are trained and conversant with the equipment.
PRE OPERATION
2. Examine the power cord, extension lead, plugs, sockets and power outlet for damage.
3. Ensure that the grinding disc, guard and attachments (including handle) are secure and
correctly fitted.
4. Inspect the grinding disc for damage. Do not use damaged grinding disc.
5. Always inspect the work piece to ensure that there aren’t any items which might damage
the grinding wheel or cause injury to the operator.
6. Secure and support the work piece using clamps, bench vices, etc.
1. Ensure all other workers are clear of the immediate work area.
2. Keep fingers and hands & power cords clear of the grinding disc.
4. Do not switch off the angle grinder when it is under load, except in an emergency.
5. Allow angle grinder to reach operating speed before applying to work piece & increase
load gradually.
9
ASURE CONSTRUCTION PTE LTD
7. Keep flexible electrical cords clear of oil, grease, machines and sources of heat.
8. Be aware of flying sparks. Hold grinder so that sparks fly away from you, other people
and flammable materials.
9. Standby fire extinguisher and fire watchmen on site when grinder is being used.
10. Do not leave the angle grinder running & only use the grinder when hand held.
11. Do not touch the work piece immediately after grinding operation as it may be extremely
hot.
