UNITARY METHOD

UNITARY METHOD

n lass VI, we have learnt about unitary method in which we first find the value of one
class

articlefrom the value of the given number of articles and then we use it to find the
(unit)

Jue
value
of required numbe of articles. We have learnt that:

article
Value of the given number of articles
Value of
one

Number of articles
and,

Value of required number of articles

= (Value of one article) x (Required number of articles)

Let us recall the unitary method through following examples:

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES
Example 1 If 6 bowls cost Rs 96. What will be the cost of 15 such bowls?
Solution We have,
Cost of 6 bowls Rs 96
96
. Cost of 1 bowl =Rs
6
96
Hence, Cost of 15 bowls = Rsx15= Rs (16x15) =Rs 240

Xample 2 The car that Ravish owns can go 150 km in 15 litres of petrol. How for can it
go with 50 litres of petrol?
Solution It is given that:
Wtih 15 litres of petrol the car goes 150 km

With 1 litre of petrol the car 150kT

goeskm
15
Hence, with 50 litres of petrol it would go

( 15050km =(10x50) km =500 km

Ie Shikha earns Rs 3000 for working in 8 days. How much will she earn if she
works for 15 days?
Solution We have,
Shikha's earning for 8 days = Rs 3000
10.2 Mathematics for lass V
3000
Shikha's earning for 1 day = Rs

1ence, shikha's earning for 15 days =Rs 3000%

x15|= Rs 5625
Example4 25 workers earn Rs 300 per day. What will be the earnings of 20 workers
workers
per
day at the same rate?
Solution We have,
Per day earning of 25 workers =Rs 300
300
Per day earning of 1 worker = Rs
25
Hence, per day earning of 20 workers = Rs X20| = Rs (12x20) =Rs 240
25
Example 5 If 25 metres of cloth cost Rs 1575, how many metres of it can be bought or
Rs 2016?
Solution For Rs 1575, cloth bought = 25 m

25
For Rs 1, cloth bought= 1575
m

For Rs. 2016, cloth bought = x25

2 0 1 6 m =32 m
1575
Hence, the length of the cloth bought for Rs. 2016 is 32 m.
