the external writing examination at the end of the year.

Use this booklet to help you develop your report writing skills.

There are some exercises to help you at the end.

SAMPLE REPORT

Read the following report and then look carefully at what is in this report and how the
report is structured.

Tena koutou katoa. Ko te Kaupapa o taku tuhinga, ko nga mahi kapa haka, ko te hui
whakahirahira, ara, ko te Matatini Rua Mano ma Whitu.

Papa te whaititiri! Hikohiko te uira! Riu ana te whenua e!

Use a whakatauki to begin you writing. Choose a whakatauki that can be linked to the
event or purpose of your report.

Tutu mai te puehu kua tae mai, kua eke, ko te ………… kua tu mai.
This can be used as an introduction if the hui is a competition or sporting event.

Use this sentence to tell your readers when the event was held.

SECTION 9 – BRIEF STATEMENT ABOUT THE EVENT.

Use this sentence if the event involves performances.

A kiiwaha that is positive and describes the positive ahua of the event.
