Introduction to Windows
Before the development of the modern Windows, which uses GUI (Graphical
User Interface), there is an interface that is used by the old generation of operating
system that is the CLI (command – line Interface) which was introduced in the early
1980’s. This interface requires to key in commands or instruction in a line format,
wherein you have to remember commands and how to use it properly.
Graphical User Interface (GUI) uses a user – friendly environment, it also uses
pictures or graphics called icons. Icons represent tasks and commands in graphical
form for it to be easily remembered. Another innovation of the window is using a
pointing device, the mouse, that you can select, point, and activate commands.
Here is the list of the Early Windows Development and their release dates up
to the latest
a. Windows 1.0 – November 1985
b. Windows 2.0 – December 1987
c. Windows 3.0 – 1990
d. Windows 95 – August 24, 1995
e. Windows 98 – June 25, 1998
f. Windows Me – September 14, 2000
g. Windows XP – October 25, 2001
h. Windows Vista – November 30, 2006
i. Windows 7 – July 22, 2009
j. Windows 8 – October 26, 2012
k. Windows 8.1 – October 17, 2013
l. Windows 10 – September 30, 2014

elements, the user name, documents, picture, settings and power. The left
side contains the series of tiles that are called the live tile. Each tile opens
the corresponding program, not only a launcher but also a dashboard on the
start menu.
As seen on the figure, five elements can be found on the left side. The
uppermost is the user account, that contains the picture of the user. The picture is also
a pop-up menu and its commands enables you to switch from one account to another.
Upon clicking the user account, this will direct you to another set of settings that
includes: sign out – logging off the user account windows closes all open programs
and documents. It then presents a new Login screen; lock – going back to the lock
screen; and change account settings – that will take you directly to the settings dialog

Keyboard care and maintenance

Keyboards are perhaps the most badly treated part of a computer. For it to last
longer try these tips on how to take care of it.

1. Regularly clean your keyboard. Cleaning your keyboard is a must. You can
use a brush of a blower to clean the keyboard from dust and food particles that are
sometimes stuck in between the keys.

2. Avoid spilling water on it. The keyboard is not water proof therefore we must
try to avoid corrosion of the parts inside the keyboard and malfunctioning. if water is
accidentally spilled on it, unplug the keyboard from the computer. Turn it over and
gently tap the water out.

3. Press the keys gently. Try to press the keys as soft as you can. It helps in
prolonging the character prints on the keys themselves. This type of typing is well-
known as touch typing. It also helps a lot in increasing your typing speed.
