PRINCIPLES & OBJECTIVES OF DISTRICT RESIDENCY PROGRAMME
Principles -
1. Learning experiences have to be derived from and targeted to the needs of
thecommunity.
2. Doctors have to be trained in diverse settings including those which are close to
thecommunity.
Objectives -
1. To expose postgraduate students to the district health system and involve them in health
careservices being provided at the district hospitals for learning while serving.
2. To acquaint them with the planning, implementation, monitoring, and assessment of
theoutcomes of national health programs at the district level.
3. To orient them towards promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services
beingprovided by various categories of healthcare professionals under the National
Health Mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A DISTRICT RESIDENT


The District resident shall be responsible for -

• Serving in outpatient, inpatient, casualty, and other departments, encompassing


nightduties
• General clinical duties
• Managerial roles and public health programs
• Contribution to research work
The resident shall also remain in contact with their designated postgraduate faculty and
department at the parent medical college. They shall alsoparticipate remotely in scheduled case
discussions, seminars, journal clubs and thesisdiscussions with their teacher.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. The resident must carry this logbook during theduration of the District Residency
Program posting.
2. Details of work done during the posting must be filled regularly and signed by the
supervisor/mentor.
3. At the end of the posting, signature and the stamp of the DRP co-ordinator
(CDMO/Superintendent) shall be obtained on the completion certificate.
4. It is mandatory to complete the DRP Posting prior to applying for Post-graduate
University Examinations.

Guidelines for training of Postgraduate students of Anatomy during DRP

(as prepared by State level Senior Faculty team of Anatomy)

All Postgraduate students of Anatomy will be trained by the District Hospitals and Health
System teams within the available avenues in coordination with the District Health Officer/Chief
Medical Officer.
They would be trained and contribute in the following areas:
1. General Clinical Duties in OPD/IPD/Casualty for case based learning for exposure to the
applied aspects of the subject relevant to clinical specialties.
2. Training and contribution to basic laboratory/ diagnostic services in Tissue Processing and
staining of histology slides.
3. Exposure to Skill Laboratories for learning skills.
4. Create Awareness about body donation, amongst general public.
5. Managerial roles.
6. Create awareness about biomedical waste among Medical Staff / Post graduate students.
7. Learning and contributing to applications like “Smart Referral System”, HMIS, etc.
8. Create awareness for Public Health Programmes and to acquaint them with the planning,
implementation, monitoring and assessment of outcomes of the National Health programmes
at the district level.
9. They can be posted in research units/facilities, laboratories and field sites of the Indian
Council of Medical Research and other national research organizations.

Postgraduate students will carry out these activities under the supervision of the
respective DRP Coordinator. These will be recorded in the Log Book attached herewith. In
addition to the above mentioned, the trainees shall also attend CME, Seminars, Journal Readings,
Thesis work and Post Graduate Discussion at their respective parent institution, on designated
days, with prior permission of the coordinator. Weekly report of the work done will also be
shared by the PG student with the respective PG Guide and HOD.
Guidelines for training of Postgraduate students of Physiology during DRP

(as prepared by State level Senior Faculty team of Physiology)

All Postgraduate students of Physiology will be trained by the District Hospital and Health

INTRODUCTION

With reference to BOG in supersession of MCI notification dated 16th September


2020, all postgraduate students pursuing MD/MS in broad specialties in all Medical
Colleges/Institutions under the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 shall undergo a
compulsory residential rotation of three months in District Hospitals / District Health
System as a part of the course curriculum. Such rotation shall take place in the 3rd or
4th or 5th semester of the Postgraduate programme. This rotation shall be termed as
‘District Residency Programme’ (DRP) and the postgraduate medical student undergoing
training shall be termed as a ‘District Resident’.

This log book contains the post graduate student’s brief bio-data and details of
his/her clinical activities done during District Residency Program posting of 3 months
under supervision of SDH/DH authority or superintendent/RMO in the subject of
Physiology. This logbook contains the brief records of skills acquired and skill proficiency
during the postgraduate training in various clinical situations / research units /facilities,
laboratories and field sites of the Indian Council of Medical Research and other national
research organizations.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

1. You must carry this logbook during your entire District Residency Program
posting.

2. Preserve this logbook as it is a very important document.

3. Paste a latest passport size photo on the completion certificate and sign it.

4. Write your full name in the certificate as it would appear in your admission form.

5. You will be allowed to appear in the final University examination only after
satisfactory completion of the district residency program.

6. This logbook is a record of various activities like:

Guidelines for training of postgraduate students of Biochemistry during
District Residency Programme

(as prepared by State level Senior Faculty team of Biochemistry)

All postgraduate students of Biochemistry will be trained at the district hospital by Health system
teams within the available avenues in coordination with the District Health Officer/ Chief
Medical Officer.

They would be trained and contribute in the following areas:

1. To monitor daily analytical work including quality control and troubleshooting for
smooth functioning of laboratory on day-to-day basis.
2. Use of Biometric attendance for objective verification of attendance
3. To verify laboratory reports and ensure timely reporting of results.
4. To ensure that good laboratory practices as per ISO 15189:2012 are executed in
laboratory including the following:
a) Daily IQC testing & analysis of IQC
b) Daily maintenance of equipment.
c) Calibration of equipment and test parameters.
d) Monitor and record lab environment parameters.
e) All equipment is under AMC/CMC.
f) Participation in proficiency testing programme.
5. To train all laboratory technicians and laboratory attendant for their respective job.
6. To assess the laboratory test demand in hospital and work for commencement of new
tests with existing facilities.
7. To plan for upgradation of laboratory services and draw specifications of equipment
required.
8. To manage inventory of laboratory reagent kits & consumables and timely demand the
same with required specification.
9. To provide clinicians with consultation service for diagnostic test in biochemistry and
interpretation of lab results.
10. Carryout internal audit of laboratory as per ISO 15189:2012.

Postgraduate students will carry out these activities under the supervision of the respective DRP
coordinator. These will be recorded in the Log Book attached along with addition to the above
mentioned.
Guidelines for Postgraduate Students in Pharmacology during posting
under the District Residency Program (DRP)
(as prepared by State level Senior Faculty team of Anatomy)
These guidelines have been prepared as per the learning objectives as defined by the National
Medical Commission, India for M.D. Pharmacology.
1. Collect, analyse and Report Adverse Drug Reactions and Medical Devices Adverse
Events to an ADR Reporting Centre, PVPI.
2. Create awareness and train Prescribers, Nurses, Pharmacists and BME about ADR
reporting and MDAE reporting.
3. Conduct Prescription audit in OPD and IPD
4. Prepare an Essential Drug List and a Drug Formulary for the hospital
5. Identify Medication Errors in the hospital
6. Conduct Drug Utilisation Studies for high-risk medicines, antimicrobials including anti
TB, anti-HIV and other special drug groups
7. Perform Point prevalence Survey for antimicrobial drug consumption
8. Assess the antimicrobial consumption and availability in the hospital as per Pharmacy
and store records.
9. Train nurses and prescribers about rational antimicrobial prescribing, dispensing and
use.
10. Create awareness among prescribers, nurses, pharmacists and consumers regarding
antimicrobial resistance and importance of rational antimicrobial prescribing.
11. Conduct Awareness programs among Consumers about ADRs, medication safety and
medication adherence.
12. Interpret ECG, PFT ad EEG records of patients.

Postgraduate students will carry out these activities under the supervision of the respective
DRP Coordinator. These will be recorded in the Log Book attached along with addition to the
above mentioned, the trainees shall also attend CME, Seminars and Post Graduate Discussion

Preface

assessment of adverse drug reactions associated with use of drugs, and

Medical Devices Adverse Events as per the National Pharmacovigilance

Program of India and Materiovigilance Program of India.

2. Demonstrate skills for writing rational prescriptions and prescription

Essential drugs in healthcare settings.

Preface

This Logbook contains the post graduate student’s brief bio-data

District/Sub-District Hospital

• Resident Doctor has to assist Medical Officer/RMO/Duty Doctor


in following Medico-legal cases.
• Resident Doctor has to prepare Medico-legal cases and get the
Logbook signed by respective Medical Officer/RMO/Duty Doctor.
