Financial Institutions: Philippine National Bank
It provide service as intermediaries of financial markets. They are responsible for transferring funds from investors to companies in need of those funds. Financial institutions facilitate the flow of money through the economy.

Banking Institution
The term "banking institution" as used in this part shall be construed to mean any bank, trust company, bank and trust company, stock savings bank, or mutual savings bank, which is now or may hereafter be organized under the laws of this state. a. Universal banks - Banking that includes investment services in addition to services related to savings and loans. Example: Philippine National Bank b. Commercial Banks - is a type of financial institution and intermediary. It is a bank that provides transactional, savings, and money market accounts and that accepts time deposits. Examples: Export and Industry Bank c. Thrift Banks - A financial institution focusing on taking deposits and originating home mortgages. Thrift banks often have access to low-cost funding from Federal Home Loan Banks, which allows for higher savings account yields to customers and increased liquidity for mortgage loans. Examples: -Savings and mortgage Banco Filipino Savings and Mortgage Bank -Private Development Banks BPI Family Savings Bank RCBC Savings Bank, Inc. -Stock Savings and Loan Association New Zealand Savings and Loan Association Company Rural Banks - a rural bank is a financial institution that helps rationalize the developing regions or developing country to finance their needs specially the projects regarding agricultural progress. Examples: ALABANK (Rural Bank of Alabang, Inc.) Cooperative Banks-is retail and commercial banking organized on a cooperative basis. Cooperative banking institutions take deposits and lend money in most parts of the world. Examples: Cooperative Bank of Camarines Sur Islamic banks-Islamic banking (or participant banking) (Arabic: ) is banking or banking activity that is consistent with the principles of Islamic law (Sharia) and its practical application through the development of Islamic economics Examples: Arab Bank

b. Investment companies- is a company whose main business is holding securities of other companies purely for investment purposes. The investment company invests money on behalf of its shareholders who in turn share in the profits and losses. Example: SEI Investments Company c. Financing companies-A company that makes loans to clients. Examples: Allied Banking Corporation d. Securities dealer/broker-A securities broker buys and sells securities on behalf of clients, while a securities dealer buys and sells securities on behalf of himself or his firm. A securities broker-dealer performs both of these functions and is subject to special regulation. Example: Asiasec Equities, Inc. e. Non stock savings and loan association- a non stock, non-profit corporation that engaged in the business of accumulating the savings of its members and using such accumulations for loans to members to service the needs of households by providing long term financing for home building and development and for personal finance. Examples: Banks f. Building and loan association-it is a depository financial institution that is federally or state chartered, that specializes in collecting savings deposits from customers and investing it in residential mortgage loan. Building and Loan Associations are usually mutually held, meaning that depositors and borrowers have the ability to direct the financial goals of the organization. g. Pawnshop- A pawnbroker is an individual or business (pawnshop or pawn shop) that offers secured loans to people, with items of personal property used as collateral. The word pawn is derived from the Latin pignus, for pledge, and the items having been pawned to the broker are themselves called pledges or pawns, or simply the collateral. Examples: Bobs Pawnshop
h. Lending investors- Some individuals cannot borrow money from banks or credit unions and would pay a high interest to get a loan. Other individuals possess money and want to get some profits from it. A lending investor finds people with money and matches them with people who need money and are willing to pay a certain rate of interest for it. Unlike banks or credit unions, lending investors perform only one specific task: they lend money for profit. Lending investors also operate on a smaller scale, having a smaller capital base and operating within a particular limited area. Example: Kff Corporation Lending Investors i. Fund manager- The person(s) responsible for implementing a fund's investing strategy and managing its portfolio trading activities. A fund can be managed by one person, by two people as co-managers and by a team of three or more people. Trust companies/ departments- It is normally owned by one of three types of structures: an independent partnership, a bank, or a law firm, each of which specializes in being a trustee of various kinds of trusts and in managing estates. Insurance companies -A company that offers insurance policies to the public, either by selling directly to an individual or through another source such as an employee's benefit plan. Venture Capital Corporation -A Venture Capital Corporation is a corporation registered under the programs that have been formed for the sole purpose of investing funds in a number of start-up, emerging and expanding eligible small businesses. These corporations usually are managed by venture capitalists or angel investors who provide small businesses with the benefit of their expertise, experience and business knowledge. m. Credit Cooperative- financial institution that is owned and controlled by its members and operated for the purpose of promoting thrift, providing credit at competitive rates, and providing other financial services to its members. Example: CCT Credit Cooperative
