Lets Mark The Boundaries With Guide Questions

This document provides instructions for an activity to mark the locations of active volcanoes, earthquake epicenters, and major mountain belts on three world maps. Students will trace these features on overlays using different colored markers. By comparing the overlays, students are meant to observe the distribution of these tectonic features and answer questions about their locations in relation to Earth's tectonic plates. The goal is for students to determine the scientific basis for dividing the lithosphere into plates.

Let’s Mark the Boundaries

Name:____________________________________Section:_____________Date:_____________ Teacher’s Name: __________________________

Objectives:
• Describe the distribution of active volcanoes, earthquake epicenters, and major mountain belts.
• Determine the scientific basis for dividing the Lithospheric plates.
Materials:
• Figure 1 to 3 (World Map) • 1 piece thin paper or plastic cover (whichever is available) • marking pens (three different colors)
Procedures:
1.Prepare the materials.
2.Place the plastic cover/thin paper on top of Map 1 and trace the earthquakes using green marker. Then using the same plastic cover/paper place at the top of
Map 2 and trace the volcanoes using red marker. And on top of Map 3 and trace the mountain ranges using black marker.
3. Obseve the markings, where the earthquakes, active volcanoes and mountain ranges are.
4. Answer the guide questions after the activity.

Guide
Questions:
