Planning has been labelled the primary management function because it sets the stage for all
other aspects of management. Planning involves decisions about how the organization is to
accomplish its goals.

Organizing
Organizing involves the preparations necessary for implementing plans. Through organizing
manages create a structure of relationships that makes it possible for employees to carry out
plans. The manager must decide which jobs are to be performed and then determine who
reports to whom in the organization.
Leading
Leading involves influencing the members of the organization in such a way that the overall
goals of the organization can be achieved. Besides achieving the organization’s immediate
goals, the manager, through leadership ability and the ability to motivate subordinate, must
satisfy the needs of the employees.

Controlling
Controlling involves guiding the organization in the proper direction to accomplish its goals.
This involves monitoring the activities of the organization and comparing them with organization

1.3.2 The Boxman: the Boxman is mainly focused on packaging wrapping and they target
market is companies or individuals who are moving things or packaging companies.
Chopies; Chopies is a supermarket which is targeting ordinary people and vendors who
sells they product to consumers. They also play a huge role in in giving back to the community
it terms of Batho pele projects.

2.1 Technical Skills


Specialized segments of knowledge and expertise plus the ability to apply that knowledge make
up a manager’s technical skills. Preparing a financial statement, programming a computer,
designing an office building, and considering market research are all examples of technological
skills. These types of skills are especially important for managerial managers because they
work closely with employees who are producing the goods and/or services of the firm. (Not

Human Relations Skills


Human relations skills are the people skills managers use to accomplish goals through the use
of human resources. This set of skills includes the ability to understand human execution, to
connect effectively with others, and to motivate individuals to accomplish their objectives. Giving
positive feedback to employees, being vulnerable to their character needs, and steering a
cooperation to empower subordinates are all examples of good human relations skills. Spotting
and boosting managers with human relations skills are important for companies. A manager with
little or no people expertise can end up using an authoritarian leadership style and alienating
employees. (Very Important)

Conceptual Skills
Conceptual skills include the magnitude to view the organization, recognise how the various
parts are mutually dependent, and assess how the organization relates to its external
environment. These skills allow managers to assess situations and develop alternative courses
of action. Good theoretical skills are especially vital for managers at the top of the management
pyramid, where strategic planning takes place. (Very Important)

Technical Skills: this are individual who normally use their hands and tools to get the work
done, eg plumbers, electricians and Foreman’s
Human Relations Skills: these departments usually deal with any labor relations issue such as
financials, human relations.

Conceptual Skills: these individuals are critical thinkers in the organization they normally are
decision makers.

3.1 Planning and administration competency involves deciding what task needs to be done,
determining how they can be done, allocating resources to enable them to be done, and then
monitoring progress to ensure that they are done.

3.2 Planning helps us to be accountable for what we do. Proposing assist us decide how best to
use our resources (people, time, money, information, equipment) so that they make the most
significant impact to achieving our goal. Planning lays the foundation for us to assess and
evaluate our successes effectively.
