Question Paper

Exam Date & Time: 05-Mar-2020 (02:00 PM - 05:30 PM)

INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY BANGALORE (IIITB)

Physic-2
Quiz-2 (Magnetostatics) & Midterm
The first three sections belong to Quiz -2 on magnetostatics. Every question carries 0.5 marks and there are 15 questions (total of 7.5)
The next three sections belong to Midterm. In this first section we have 5 MCQs of 2 marks each, section 2 has 5 short answer questions of 2 marks
each and last section has 2 questions of 5 marks each with internal choice.
Where ever Multiple choice questions (MCQ) are seen in this paper, it is expected that you identify the correct answer and then give a proper reason
for your choice. There are no partial marks for MCQs.
In the Internal choice questions, if you answer partially from both the choices provided in a question, you will get the minimum marks of the two
choices after evaluating both.
There is a last section with title Ignore which says its for 0.5 marks because the Digital exam system is not allowing me to conduct an exam for 37.5
marks. Hence i am making this dummy section and you have to do nothing here.. your question paper is effectively for 7.5( quiz -2) and 30 (midterm)
a total of 37.5 marks.

recorded there. The bottom of the cloud is a height d = 300meters above the Earth and the top of the cloud is a height d =
300 meters above the bottom. Assume that the cloud is electrically neutral but has charges +q at its top and -q at its
bottom. Estimate the magnitude of the charge q and the external electrical force (both directiion and magnitude) on the
cloud. You may assume that there are no charges in the atmosphere other than those on the cloud [ if you get this
answer right i will add 2 bonus marks to your total ]
