1. Course Description
Calculus is a main component in learning mathematics. This subject covers the additional algebraic and
trigonometric skills needed by the students before they venture into the world of calculus. It consists of
four major parts: coordinates, graphs and lines; functions; systems of equations and inequalities; and
trigonometry.

2. Course Learning Outcomes (CLO)

On completing this module students will be able to acquire the learning and skills outcomes as
follows:-

1. Express the basic concepts of coordinates, graphs and lines, functions, systems of equations
and inequalities and trigonometry.
2. Sketch the graphs of the basic functions and trigonometric functions.
3. Apply appropriate method and procedures related to trigonometric problems

7. What I Expect From You

As the person responsible for this course, I have certain hopes and expectations of you. I
hope that:

1. You will be present for all classes. Attendance is important for an understanding of
the content of the course. University policy requires that you be present for at least
80% of the classes. Absences will only be excused if there is a valid M.C letter or
reason
2. You will participate actively in all discussions by asking questions, providing
answers, sharing personal experiences and contributing actively towards your own
learning. You are not expected to sit passively in class
3. You are expected to exercise ethicality and academic honesty at all times. In
particular, copying work of others (from your friends or any books without
acknowledgement is strictly forbidden, especially in written work
4. You are expected to read about the topic before class and review the lessons
after class. You have to follow up in areas that you need to. Any homework or
assignment given must be completed before the next class to be discussed
5. If you need to leave the class to go to the toilet, do ask for permission. But bear in
mind that I will find out if you leave the class to smoke
6. Finally, please turn off your cell phone in class. It is rude when class is interrupted
by the ringing of your cell phone

8. What You can Expect from Me

As students, you will have certain expectations of me. On my part, I shall try my best to:

1. Be accessible and available to provide advice, explanation and guidance on areas of

the course that are not clear or which need to be dealt with in greater detail. Please
feel free to make appointment or direct to my email ([email protected])
and phone number: 014-9434046.
2. Be fair in grading of all assignments, tests, examination, etc.
3. Provide encouragement and support so that you can attain the goals of the course
