Lab Manual 3

The document provides instructions for creating a 3D model of a lamp base in SolidWorks using various features. The model is constructed using extrude, extrude cut, fillet, chamfer and shell commands. First, a base is extruded and filleted. Then, additional extrusions and an extruded cut create the main geometry. Holes, fillets and a shell complete the model to resemble the 2D diagram.

IME-363L CAD/CAM Lab

Lab Manual 3
Title
To draw an object using Extrude, Extrude Cut, Fillet, Chamfer and Shell Commands.

Objective
After performing this lab session students will be able to build geometric models using extrude,
extrude cut, fillet, chamfer and shell commands in SolidWorks 2015.

Geometric Model Aimed to Be Developed

A lamp base, as shown in Figure 1, is expected to be drawn by students. It houses battery and
other circuitry of the lamp. Lamp is mounted on a round bar which is fitted in the hole at the top,
as can be seen again in Figure 1.

Procedure
1. Create Base Extrusion
a. Select Top Plane in Feature Manager Design Tree and click on sketch command
to create a sketch for extrusion.
b. Draw a Center Point rectangle as shown in Figure 2:

c. Fillet the corners (R=10 mm)

Figure 3
d. Exit Sketch and extrude the sketch (Thickness = 0.1 mm)

2. Create the 2 Extrusion
nd

a. Draw the following sketch on the top face of the model, as shown Figure 5.

b. Exit from sketch environment and extrude the ‘Sketch 2’ (Thickness = 40 mm)

3. Create Extruded Cut

a. Create a sketch on the right face of the model. Draw a triangle having corners at

top left corner and midpoints of the adjacent sides as shown in Figure 7.

b. After exiting from sketch environment, executes the extruded cut command

(Depth = 80 mm).

4. Create Extruded Boss for Hole

a. Draw a circle of the top face of the model (Diameter = 20 mm). Location is

shown in Figure 9.

b. Extrude the sketch (Thickness = 10 mm).

5. Create Hole in the Boss (Extruded Cut)

a. Draw a circle on the top of extruded boss (Concentric, Dia. = 10 mm)

b. Extrude Cut the hole (Through All)

6. Countersink the Hole (Chamfer)

Chamfer the top edge of the hole (Distance = 03 mm, Angle = 45◦)

7. Fillet the Edges

Fillet all edges except the out edges of the boss and Extruded Base (Boss-Extrud1),

R = 5 mm.

8. Shell the Model

Shell the model from the bottom face (Thickness = 1 mm), as illustrated in Figure 15.
