G.F. Report

This document describes an experiment to test how sunlight affects plant growth. The independent variable is the amount of sunlight, with plants receiving full sun, partial sun, or no sun. The dependent variable is plant growth, which will be measured by changes in height and color. Soil type, water amount, and planting depth will be kept constant as control variables. The experiment involves planting identical bean seeds in three pots, placing each under a different light condition, and observing their growth over time. The hypothesis is that the plant receiving full sun will grow faster and healthier.

GROWTH FACTORS 2

Growth Factors Report

Instruction:

Design an experiment that tests how a change to a single factor (independent

variable) will affect plant germination (dependent variable). It is important to control
all other variables (control variable) in your experiment to determine whether the
change you introduced had an affect on the germination of the seed. For example, if
you want to study how light affects seed germination, you will want to set up three
plants under different lighting conditions, and keep everything else—soil type, depth
of planting, amount of water, fertilization, temperature—the same.

Question:

How does sunlight affect plant growth? How does the quantity of sunlight make a
difference with each plant?

Hypothesis:

If the plant gets unlimited sunlight, then it will grow faster and healthier than the
plants that gets limited amount of sunlight, because a good quantity of sunlight
allows the plant to get all the energy it needs to create food for themselves.

Identifications:
1. What is the causal factor that will create changes in the plant? (Independent
variable)
- Sunlight is the casual factor that will create changes in the plants.
2. When the amount of sunlight will change, what can be observed with the plants?
(Dependent variable)
- They will change heights and color.
3. Mention three constant variables.
- The three constant variables are soil type, amount of water and depth of planting.
GROWTH FACTORS 3

Material:

• Three identical bean seeds

• Three pots
• One cup of soil per pot
• One fourth cup of water per pot
• Notebook and pencil
• Three different growing locations: full sun, partial/some sun, no sun

Procedure:

1) Obtain seed for the type of bean plants you would like to grow.
2) Fill the three pots with one cup of soil.
3) Create a hole in the center of each pot.
4) Place the bean in the bottom of the hole
5) Fill in the hole with soil by compressing slightly
6) Sprinkle the one fourth cup of water gently to moist to soil without getting it wet.
7) Place the first pot in a full sun lighted place.
8) Place the second pot in a semi-sunlight place.
9) Place the third pot in a shady place.
10) Water the three pots when needed to stay moist.
