Times Transcript
VAANS : The following interview is with Puleng Khumalo, who
is a minor. Present are her parents as well as Julius Khumalo's
attorney Lindsay Abel.So you only have a photocopy of the
DNA results?
And the man actually never admitted to falsifying the original
results?

PULENG : He nodded.

VAANS : He nodded?But he already lied about the results once


when someone allegedly paid him.How do you know he didn't
lie to get what he wanted from you?

PULENG : Because I saw the texts between him and Mrs. Bhele.

VAANS : Do you have proof of these texts?

PULENG : Maybe a picture.

VAANS : ( sighs ) So you're telling me you have no evidence


despite all the, uh, investigations you've supposedly done?

PULENG : What are you trying to imply, Detective Vaans?

VAANS : I'm sorry, but this doesn't make sense. The young girl
just stumbles upon her abducted sister...

PULENG : Watch your tone.

VAANS : ( exhales ) You understand the implications of wasting


state resources?

PULENG : With all due respect, sir... I didn't stumble upon


anything. I've been investigating this for months, following
leads that you... that you've neglected for years. If you don't
believe me, ask Wade. Or Fikile. Bhele?

VAANS : Well, we'll, uh, be in touch. I should take my leave too.

PULENG : ( breathes deeply ) Thank you.

FIKILE : I hate that Dad thinks I'm his real daughter.

NWABISA : ( in Xhosa ) You are his real daughter, sweetheart.


You've always been ours. I've given all my love to you. It is deep,
my child. ( in English ) What can I do to make things better?
FIKILE : Tell him everything. Or I will. Okay.

NWABISA : ( in Xhosa ) What did Puleng say?

FIKILE : ( in English ) She said she'd give me time to talk to you,


so, relax. Your lie is safe. For now.

(The next morning at Purkhurst High School)

FIKILE : ( sighs ) I wish we didn't have exams today.

TAHIRA, WENDY AND WADE : Why? Um, what happened?

FIKILE : So I spoke to my mom last night.And she confirmed


everything. She did tamper with the DNA test. And I'm most
probably Puleng's missing sister. Well, that's... that's
something.

WENDY:Why do I feel like sh¡t?

FIKILE : 'Cause it sucks finding out your mom's keeping crazy


secrets.

PULENG : Hey. What's up?

FIKILE : It's nothing.


PULENG : Okay. I'll see you later?

FIKILE : Yeah. Okay. ( bell ringing )

WENDY : Poor thing embarrassed the living sh¡t out of herself.

ZAMA : Wendy? Wendy.

TAHIRA : I'm sorry I skipped out on you last night. I was sick.

FIKILE : ( Fikile sighs ) KB... did you seriously out us kissing?

KB : ( grunts ) I'm sorry, Fiks. I... I wasn't thinking.

FIKILE : ( Fikile scoffs ) Whatever.

KB : Um, I heard that you and Tahira broke up. Wade... was it
because of me?

WADE : Maybe, she thinks we were fighting for Puleng.

KB : Sheesh my bad, I really apologize bro didn't mean for it to


turn out that way.

WADE : No it's okay man, it's not like I swa a way forward with
her anyways. (They giggle)

(Puleng arrives home from school)

THANDEKA : ( in English ) About this morning, I didn't mean


to upset you. I was merely suggesting that as a family, we
should get some professional help. Keeping things in is not
healthy. You seem to be fine.

PULENG : ( scoffs ) There you go again. What is that supposed


to mean? I know you cheated on Dad, Mom. ( gasps ) Are you
going to deny it? Like you've been doing this whole time.

THANDEKA : It was a long time ago.

(There's a knock on the door, it's Zama)

ZAMA : (in zulu) Good afternoon mama

THANDEKA : (in zulu) Good afternoon my child, let me leave


you guys.

PULENG : Let's go to my room ( and off they go then Zama


starts the conversation)

ZAMA : So, did Fikile stick to the plan?


PULENG : Can we talk about something else

ZAMA :I'll take that as a Noooo...

(They have a chat catching up one each other's lives and


giggle...The police arrive at the Mbhele residence, where Mr and
Mrs Mbhele get arrested)

KB: So like, what? You're a Khumalo now?

FIKILE : They still have to do some tests to make sure, but yeah.
Puleng and I are most probably definitely sisters.

KB : This is insane.And Wade? Why was he interviewed?

FIKILE : Apparently, he was, like, Puleng's investigator sidekick


the entire time.

KB : ( gasps) this whole time!?

(KB goes over to the Khumalo residence)

SIYA : Your boyfriend is here to see you.

PULENG : KB,What are you doing here?


SIYA : Mom says you have five minutes...

FIKILE : Siya( in Zulu ) Get out, please.

KB : ( sighs ) ( in English ) I won't be long. Fiks told me


everything. Even about Wade and how he's been helping you.
That's why you two were always together, right? Hanging out?
Why didn't you tell me?

PULENG : It doesn't matter now.

KB : Yeah, but I accused you of doing all those things behind my


back.

PULENG : ( sighs ) I didn't know how to tell you, KB. Your dad is
the Bheles' lawyer.

KB : I still would have supported you. You're my... Were my


girlfriend. Anyway, I just wanted to say sorry for...

PULENG : What? KB?

KB : This is a photo of my mom, Puleng. Why do you have it?


( tense atmosphere) Why?
