Answer all questions
1. Define climate change.
- Climate change is defined as a major shift in average weather conditions, such as growing warmer, wetter, or drier over several decades or longer. The longer-term trend distinguishes climate change from normal weather fluctuation.
2. What are 3 main causes of climate change.
- Generating power - Cutting down forests - Using transportation
3. Describe 4 of the impacts of climate change.
- Hotter temperature’s : Higher temperatures increase heat-related illnesses and make working outdoors more difficult. Wildfires start more easily and spread more rapidly when conditions are hotter. - More severe storms : Destructive storms have become more intense and more frequent in many regions. As temperatures rise, more moisture evaporates, which exacerbates extreme rainfall and flooding, causing more destructive storms. - Increased drought : Climate change is changing water availability, making it scarcer in more regions. Global warming exacerbates water shortages in already water- stressed regions and is leading to an increased risk of agricultural droughts affecting crops, and ecological droughts increasing the vulnerability of ecosystems. - A warming, rising ocean : The ocean soaks up most of the heat from global warming. The rate at which the ocean is warming strongly increased over the past two decades, across all depths of the ocean. As the ocean warms, its volume increases since water expands as it gets warmer.
4. Define carbon footprint.
- A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide and methane) that are generated by our actions. 5. Define water footprint. - Rather like the carbon footprint, the water footprint is an environmental indicator that measures the volume of fresh water (in litres or cubic metres) used throughout the entire production chain of a consumer item or service.
6. What is the importance of biodiversity preservation ?
- Biodiversity is essential for the processes that support all life on Earth, including humans. Without a wide range of animals, plants and microorganisms, we cannot have the healthy ecosystems that we rely on to provide us with the air we breathe and the food we eat
7. List any 6 types of pollution.
- Air pollution - Water pollution - Soil pollution - Thermal pollution - Plastic pollution - Acid rain
8. Name 1 of the impact of pollution towards environment.
- Breathing polluted air increases the risk of developing lung diseases such as asthma and lung cancer.
9. What happen at number (8)?
- Breathing bad air also increases the chances of dying from other diseases.
10. State 6 of steps in practising pollution control.
- Using public transportations - Turn off the lights when not in use - Recycle and reuse - No to plastics bag - Reduction of forests fires and smoking - Use of fans instead of air conditioner 11. Differentiate between 4 of the Natural Resources.
