Job Purpose
The HV Plant Diagnostics Team Leader is responsible for leading a specialist team of technicians
who ensure the operational safety and reliability of ENERGEX’s and external business’ high
voltage plant and equipment by performing condition monitoring and protection system tests in
accordance with the relevant ENERGEX and Australian Standards.
Duties
≥ Ensure work is performed to meet safety, environmental and legal responsibilities in
accordance with standard work practices, on the job monitoring and provision of suitable
training.
≥ Organise and allocate physical and human resources to ensure project schedules and
budgets are met on a daily basis.
≥ Implement and maintain competency-based training with performance measurements for
Diagnostic Test Technicians.
≥ Perform commissioning and maintenance testing on plant, as required.
≥ Exercise a high level of technical knowledge and motivation to independently make informed
decisions and recommendations
≥ Perform partial discharge and dielectric loss angle testing on high voltage circuit breakers,
transformers,cables and switchgear and provide reports on remnant life expectations and life
extension solutions.
≥ Perform specialised testing for earthing systems, protection system and insulation testing as
required to ensure compliance with relevant specifications on a continual basis.
≥ Provide technical advice and assistance to ENERGEX and external business personnel on a
regular basis.
≥ Provide technical guidance to others in the work team, understand and implement quality
systems, perform incidental and peripheral work and assist in providing on the job training.
≥ Perform a range of duties, consistent with grade, as set out in the Electricity Generation,
Transmission & Supply Award – State Career Path Documentation.

Job Purpose
A multi skilled specialist performing investigations to ensure electrical network assets conform to
all relevant legislation, standards, work procedures and practices.
Duties
≥ Partial discharge testing on power transformers, instrument transformers, bushings, circuit
breakers, bus bars and primary bars.
≥ DLA Doble testing on power transformers, instrument transformers, bushings, circuit
breakers, bus bars and primary bars.
≥ High Voltage withstand testing on power transformers, instrument transformers, bushings,
circuit breakers, bus bars and primary bars.
≥ Online substation scanning using ultravoilet, TEV, ultrasonic, RF, infra-red
≥ HV and LV switching on overhead, underground and substation equipment up to 132kV
≥ Accuracy testing on metering CT’s and Vt’s for Powerlink

Michael offers exceptional performance and precise delivery on all tasks from electrical plants,

ENERGEX and in the Australian Defence Force, Michael demonstrates his expertise across
the board; including condition monitoring, network switching, fault diagnosis and repair, high
voltage controls, and Australian Standards compliance. His flawless record in safety, procedural
compliance and professionalism has played a vital role in New Power’s success.
Duties
≥ Completed installation and commissioning of substation and network transmission plant,
protection and control equipment. Applied system knowledge to locate and resolve system
failures.
≥ Conducted HV switching procedures to isolate, earth and make safe high voltage apparatus
up to 132kV
≥ Conducted on-line testing of Electrical equipment across a large network to identify insulation
defects, contact resistance defects (hot spots) and gas leakage.
≥ Conducted in-depth off-line testing of Electrical equipment do give a good indication of the
equipment’s quality and give early warning of possible failures and to identify the best means
for efficient repair.
≥ Provide network scanning methods, maintenance and commissioning testing on various
