LEARNING ASSESSMENT – VII

SCQs #3
1. What are the problems that an employer may encounter when checking references
furnished by job applicants? Are there any solutions to these problems?

 Most employers check references as part of the hiring process, to used it as

an outline to choose the right employee. The common problems that an employer
may encounter during checking references is the false information. Some
candidates provide inaccurate references on their resume or application letter.
Candidates might have stretched the truth or even completely made their
previous experiences. In addition, lack of qualified candidates is also a problem
may encounter by the employer. Because of the inappropriate information the
organization can have a hard time to search the best employee for the vacant
position. Problems is inevitable in searching candidates, however, we must
consider that there’s solutions that could solve the problems. Employer must not
just rely on the information written in resume or application letter, instead do a
further research about the candidates background to make sure that the written
or oral information given is legit. The employer can also consider the pre-
employment test to easily identify who telling the truth or not. Also, widen your
scope of searching employee can help you to find a well skilled employee.

2. Identify and distinguish the main classifications of employment interviews. Which one
would you like to use? Why?

 Interview is the process where Interviewer seek information from the

interviewee to predict if what capabilities could the interviewee offer to the
organization. According to Gary Dessler, “Interview is a selection procedure
designed to predict future job performance based on applicants oral responses to
oral inquiries.” Interview is composed of four (4) classification those are:
Unstructured interview, there is generally no set of format to follow so that the
interview can take various direction. It involves a procedure where different
questions may be asked to different applicants; Structured interview, the
interviewer lists the questions and acceptable responses in advance and may
even rate and save possible answers for appropriateness; Panel interview; this
is conducted by a team of interviewers, who interview each candidate and then
rates each interviewee on each such dimension; Computer and virtual
interview, is a way for employer to shortlist candidates using online tools. In
each classification have different process on how they can communicate every
candidate, above they still have the same goal which is to find the right employee
for its position.
In this time that pandemic occur and social distancing is needed to follow, I
think Computer and virtual interview is the best way to interview the candidates.
This can allow for a more efficient interview process, saves money, and
broadens the candidate poll.

3. In your opinion, does a polygraph or lie-detector test indicate accuracy to uncover

applicant’s dishonesty? Support your answer.

 Polygraph or lie-detector is a device or instrument that the primary used is to

examine an applicant whether he/she is telling the truth or lying when answering
to questions. Is this device can truly uncover person dishonesty? We cannot
easily say or conclude that the person is honest or not by only using the
polygraph, and can still gain an inaccurate data or result from it. That’s why this
is not accurate to used as a based in choosing applicant during the selection
process. Above all this device is still not considerable to accuse a person a lier or
not. What if the situation appear where the result is lie but the candidate is telling
the truth, the employer must always consider the probability could happened. In
addition, instead of relying the information or data from polygraph the employer
must conduct further research about the background of each applicant because I
think it is in that way you cab find more reliable and accurate information.
