Preposition
• A preposition is a word—and almost always a very
small, very common word—that shows direction,
location, or time, or that introduces an object.
• Prepositions are typically followed by an object,
which can be a noun (noon), a noun phrase (the
door), or a pronoun (you).
• Prepositions: on, in, at, by, with, for, over, under, of,
to, behind, in front of, next to, between, near, above,
below, etc.
Prepositions
• She paid for lunch __in__ advance, so we don't
need to pay now.
• I went to the wrong house __by__ mistake.
• Please make sure that you’re __on__ time for the
class.
• I was walking to the station and __by__ chance I
saw the glove that I'd lost on the ground.

Noun
• Nouns make up the largest class of words in
most languages, including English.
• A noun is a word that refers to a thing
(book), a person (Noah Webster), an animal
(cat), a place (Omaha), a quality (softness),
an idea (justice), or an action (yodeling). It's
usually a single word, but not always: cake,
shoes, school bus, and time and a half are
all nouns.

Pronoun
• A pronoun is a word that is used instead of
a noun or noun phrase. Pronouns refer to
either a noun that has already been
mentioned or to a noun that does not need
to be named specifically.
• The most common pronouns are the
personal pronouns, which refer to the
person or people speaking or writing (first
person), the person or people being
spoken to (second person), or other people
or things (third person).
Indefinite Pronouns
• She wants to live __somewhere__ by the sea (in a
certain place).
• She put __everything__ in the box, all the things
that she had.
• Does __anybody__ have a phone charger? (I don't
know if a person has a charger or not.)
• We went __nowhere__ this weekend. We stayed at
home.
• She didn't bring __anything__ to the party.
• Is there __anything__ in the room?
Indefinite Pronouns
Quantifier
• One that quantifies: such as
• a: a prefixed operator that binds the
variables in a logical formula by specifying
their quantity
• b: a limiting noun modifier (such as five in
"the five young men") expressive of quantity
and characterized by occurrence before the
descriptive adjectives in a noun phrase
A Little / Little / A Few / Few
• I have __a little__ water left. There's enough to
share.
• I have __a few__ good friends. I'm not lonely.
• He has __little__ education. He can't read or write,
and he can hardly count.
• There are __few__ people she really trusts. It's a bit
sad.
• We've got __a little__ time at the weekend. Would
you like to meet?
• Julie gave us __a few__ apples from her garden.
