A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson

1.b. Motivation
Divide the class into three (3) groups.

- You choose your representative who will be raising his/her hand to


answer. He/she will tell your answer.

- The first group to raise a hand will be called. If they got a wrong
answer. The other group has a chance to give their answers. One
(1) point for each correct answer.

- I’ll be presenting several characters you’ve got to answer. Let’s


see how fast you think.

- Guess what word/words represent/s the illustrations and text/s.

- Let’s have an example first.

- Any observation? - There is an arrow on the


first word
- Good observation!

- What do you think is the answer then? - I think top secret ma’am.

- Yes, you’re right! There are three the same words that are
written on the paper which is SECRET. And there is an arrow
pointing on the uppermost word. Thus, the answer is top
secret.

- Now, let us read a very short story children.

In Kiling, there was a very kind baker. His name is Apo Ke-eng.
Apo Ke- eng is busy packing his kamote cupcakes and banana-
flavored pancakes. Bugan, his granddaughter is also busy packing
applesauce and strawberry jam. They will bring these to the school as
donation to the parents who are working on a scheduled “fadchang”.
The parents were very pleased with the free snacks provided by the
Apo Ke-eng. - Apo Ke’eng ma’am.

- Who is the baker in the story?


- He bakes cupcakes and

- What does he bake?

- Correct! - Pupils’ answer

- Who among you love cupcakes or pancakes?

- We just learned about words combined together to formed


a new word. Any idea how these words are called? .

- These words such as pancake, cupcakes, applesauce,


granddaugther are called compound words.

- compound word is a word that came from two or more


words combined together to form a new word.
- With all those given examples, did you understand what a - Yes ma’am.

- What other examples do you know? Can you give some


examples of compound words that are related with the - pupils answer

- But don’t you know that there are three (3) kinds of compound
words. These are as follows;

1. Closed compound words - are two words combined together.

Examples: flowerpot, keyboard, notebook, bookstore

2. Hyphenated compound words -use a hyphen between two or more


words

Examples: mother-in-law, merry-go-round

3. Open compound words -are commonly used together but are written
with a space in between.

Examples; school bus, living room

F. Developing mastery

- Let’s see how well you understand compound words.


I have posted a flower. Inside it, is a word you have to complete.
One petal is done as your basis.

- Any volunteer who can come and write down his/her answer?

- Let’s check your answers.

- You did great!

G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily


living

- You stay on your group. You select your representative who will
raise your placards (each group will be given).

- The group who raises the correct answer will gain a winning point.
But the group who raises FIRST and got the correct answer will gain
2 winning points. Your points will be added to your score chart.
Please cooperate with your groupmates.

- I will be presenting flash cards with written compound word on it and


you tell me what kind of compound words they belong.
