Kindly stand for our prayer. Students: In the name of the Father,
Let us pray! In the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit

Amen. (All together recite the prayer
Our Father) Thank you for this day.
Bless us as we start our class today.
Amen.
Good morning, Ma’am
Good day, grade 6 !

I am Teacher Kristine and I will be

your teacher for your science class.

pieces of paper and arrange your
chairs.
S: Thank you, Ma’am.
You may now take your seats.
S: None, Ma’am.
Is there anyone absent for today?

Okay, very well!

Reminders in the class!

1. Raise your right hand if you
want to answer.
2. Show respect to your teacher
and to your classmates.
3. Listen attentively to your
teacher while she is talking.
4. Actively participate in the
classroom activities
5. Do not interrupt anyone while
she is talking especially your
teacher.
6. Do not roam around while the
class is going on.
7. Do not make any noise while the
class is going on, and
8. If you leave the classroom tell
your teacher, excuse me ma’am,
can I take my personal
necessities.

2. Review
Types of volcanic eruption:

the types of volcanic eruption: 3. Phreatic eruption: the water is heated
by volcanic activity.

Before proceeding to our new topic,

let’s have a game.

3. Motivation

Today, we are going to play a game.

This game is called Rebus Puzzle.

I will flash letters, pictures and

symbols whose names sound like the
syllables and words of a phrase or
sentence. All you need to do is to
guess the word form in the puzzle.

Are you ready?

For example:
Arm + chair = armchair

1. Lava
S: Yes, ma’am
Land – nd + van – n = lava
S: armchair
2. Magma
Man – n + girl –irl + mango – ngo =
magma S: lava

3. Volcano
Violin – iin + canoe – e = volcano
S: magma
Thank you for your active
participation. How do you find the
activity? S: volcano
At this moment, Kindly read our
objectives. S: Good, ma’am
(the teacher will show the objectives)

S:
At the end of the lesson, the students
should be able to:
Thank you. a. Describe properly the different
types of volcano through One Minute
Challenge; and
b. Raise awareness on the importance
of knowing the different types of
volcanic cones.

B. Developmental Activities

1. Activity

Volcanoes can be classified in

various ways using different
definitions and characteristics set
by several groups or organizations.
But generally, volcanoes are
classified based on the shape of the
volcano, the materials they are
built of, and the way they erupt.
We have already discussed the
types of volcanic eruption. Now, let
us proceed to the types of volcanic
cones. There three general types of
volcanic cones. These are Shield,
Cinder and Composite.

Before we will discuss them one by

one, we will have another activity.
This will be done by pair.
(Students will pair with her/his
seatmate). S: No, ma’am

Our activity is called One Minute

Challenge. Are you familiar with
this activity?

I will show three different pictures.

All you need to do is to describe the
and phrases on the papers that will
be distributed later. First image to
show, I will give you one minute to
describe the picture as many as
you can. After a minute, you will S: Yes, ma’am
stop writing and you can hear a
bell. 2nd picture to show, and 3rd and
last picture to show. Do you
understand, class?

(Teacher will distribute the papers) (Students will write.)

(Teacher will show the first

picture.)

(Students will write.)

(Teacher will show the second picture.)

(Students will write.)

(Teacher will show the third picture.)

(Students will finalize their answers.)

For 5 minutes, finalize your answer

and come up with one sentence
description in every picture.

(After 5 minutes…)
Time’s up! S: Shield cone has a slightly domed
structure like a warrior’s shield.
Kindly share to the class what you
have written S: Cinder cone has a steep slope and
wide crater.

S: Composite cone has a perfect cone

shape.

Thank you. Now, let us discuss the

three types one by one and let us see
if you have similar descriptions. S: Shield cone is formed by the
accumulation of lava that oozes out
2. Analysis from the volcano.

The first type of volcanic cone is

shield cone. What is it all about?
Kindly read.

Thank you. Since non-viscous lava

can flow freely, a broad, slightly
S: No, Ma’am.
domed structure that resembles a
warrior’s shield is formed. Are you
familiar with the name of the specific
building where professional soccer or
football games are called? S: Yes, Ma’am.

Okay. That building is called a dome.

Shield volcano is having a lightly
domed structure which is similar to
the
building where soccer games are held.
Did you understand class?

(Teacher will show the picture.)

This is the Mauna Loa Volcano located
in Hawaii.

(Teacher will show the picture.)

S: Yes, ma’am

We also
have a shield volcano here in the S: Cinder cones are built from ejected
Philippines, and that is Mount Hibok- lava fragments. They have a steep

Do you understand, class? abundant of the three types of
volcanoes.
Now, let us proceed to the second type
of volcanic cone which is cinder.

What is a cinder cone? Kindly read.

Thank you.

Cinder cones are made up of lava

fragments when volcano erupts. Also,
they have a steep slope, unlike the
shield volcano, and they are the most
numbered type of volcano.

An example of this type of volcanic

cone is the Paricutin Volcano located
in Mexico.

(Teacher will show the picture.)

As you can
see from the picture, it has a wide
crater and a steep slope.

We also have a cinder volcano in our

country, the Mount Smith in Babuyan
Island.

(Teacher will show the picture.) S. None, ma’am

S: Composite-coned volcanoes are
large, nearly perfect sloped structure
formed from alternate solidification of
both lava and pyroclastic deposits.

Do
you have any questions?

Okay. Let us proceed to the last type

of volcanic cone. This is composite S: A pyroclastics refers to a solidified
cone. Tell us about composite cone. magma.

Thank you.

Volcanoes that have composite cones

are also known as stratovolcano.
These volcanoes are built from
alternate solidification of both lava
and pyroclastic deposits.

What are pyroclastic deposits.

Correct!

A pyroclastics refers to a solidified

magma. Classic example of this type of
volcano cone is Mayon Volcano.

(Teacher will show the picture.)

S: I have learned that there are three

types of volcanic cones.

S: Conder, Shield, and Composite

cones, ma’am

3. Abstraction

Okay. Let me check if you really S: yes, ma’am

learned from our lesson today.
S. It is important to know the type of
What have you learned from our volcanic cones so that we will know
discussion? how to describe a certain volcano by
identifying its type of volcanic cone.
Thank you.

What are those?

Thank you.
4. Application
Do you think it is important to know
the type of volcanic cones?

Kindly give me one importance.

Very good!

Now, I believe you are ready for our

quiz.

Get ¼ sheet of paper and answer the

following.

IV. EVALUATION

Describe the three types of volcanic cones. Give example in each type.

V. ASSIGNMENT

Search on the positive and negative effects of volcanic eruption.
