The pilot of an aircraft flying horizontally at a speed of 1200 km/hr. observes that the angle of
depression of a point on the ground changes from 30° to 45° in 15 seconds. Find the height at which the
aircraft is flying.

Section C
11. Water in a canal 6 m wide and 1.5 m deep, is flowing with a speed of 10 km/hr. How much area will it
irrigate in 30 minutes if 4 cm of standing water is needed?

13. Basant and Vinod lives in a housing society in Dwarka, New Delhi. There are two building in their
housing society. The first building is 8 meter tall. One day, both of them were just trying to guess the
height of the other multi-storeyed building. Vinod said that it might be a 45 degree angle from the
bottom of our building to the top of multi-storeyed building so the height of the building and distance
from our building to this multi-storeyed building will be same. Then, both of them decided to estimate
it using some trigonometric tools. Let's assume that the first angles of depression of the top and bottom
of an 8 m tall building from top of a multi-storeyed building are 30o and 45o, respectively.

i. Now help Vinod and Basant to find the height of the multi-storeyed building.
ii. Also, find he distance between two buildings.

14. Akshat's father is planning some construction work in his terrace area. He ordered 360 bricks and
instructed the supplier to keep the bricks in such as way that the bottom row has 30 bricks and next is
one less than that and so on.

The supplier stacked these 360 bricks in the following manner, 30 bricks in the bottom row, 29 bricks in
the next row, 28 bricks in the row next to it, and so on.
i. In how many rows, 360 bricks are placed?
ii. How many bricks are there in the top row?

Class 10 - Mathematics
Term-2 Sample Paper - 04 (Standard)

Solution

Section A
1. Given sequence is 3, 3, 3, 3, .....
Here,
First term (a) = 3
a1 = 3
a2 = 3
Now, for the given to sequence to be an A.P,
Common difference (d) = a1 - a = a2 - a1
Here,
a1 - a = 3 - 3 = 0
Also,
a2 - a1 = 3 - 3 = 0
Since a1 - a = a2 - a1
Hence, the given sequence is an A.P and its common difference is d = 0.
2. Let the breadth of hall be x meters
Then, length = x + 3 meters
Area = length breadth = 238 m2
According to question,
x(x + 3) = 238
x2 + 3x - 238 = 0
Factorise the equation
x2 + 17x - 14x - 238 = 0
x(x + 17) - 14(x + 17) = 0
x + 17 = 0 or x - 14 = 0
x = 14 [ breadth cannot be negative]
Therefore, the breadth is 14cm.
and length is (14 + 3)cm = 17cm.
3.

Given: AB and CD are two parallel tangents, another tangent BD intersects them at B and D

respectively. The intercept BD subtends BOD at center O.

To prove:
Proof: In BOP and BOQ,
OP = OQ = radius
OB is common
BP = BQ (Tangents from one point B)
So (By SSS criteria)
Hence OBP = OBQ
So QBP = 2 OBP........(1)
Similarly in DOP and DOR,
ODP = ODR
and RDP = 2 ODP ......(2)
Now, and BD is a transversal line.
So QBP + RDP = (The interior angles formed on the same side of the transversal line)
From eqn (1) and (2),
2 OBP + 2 ODP =
So OBP + ODP =
Now in BOD,
BOD + OBP + ODP =
BOD + 90 =
Therefore BOD =
Hence proved.

4. According to the question,we are given that,

Internal radius of hollow sphere = 2 cm
External radius of hollow sphere = 4 cm
Base radius of cone = 4 cm
Let the height of the cone = h cm
By the given condition,we have,
Volume of cone = Volume of hollow sphere

h = 14 cm
Now, l2 = r2+ h2
l2 = 42 + 142
l2 = 212

Therefore, Height of the cone = 14 cm

and Slant height of the cone = 14.56 cm

6. Let the consecutive multiples of 3 be 3x and 3(x + 1).
Then, we have

x + 9 = 0 or x - 8 = o
x = -9 or x = 8
Since x is a positive number, x -9
x=8
3x = 3(8) = 24 and 3(x + 1) = 3(9) = 27
Hence, the required consecutive multiples of 3 are 24 and 27.

Hence, the average number of patients attending the hospital in a day is 29 approx.

In rt. ACE,

Section C
11. Canal is the shape of cuboid where
Breadth = 6 m
Height = 1.5 m
Speed of water in canal = 10 km/hr
Length of canal in 1 hour = 10 km
Length of canal in 60 minutes = 10 km
Length of canal in 1 min = km
Length of canal in 30 min = = 5 km = 5000 m

Volume of water canal = Length Breadth Height = 5000 6 1.5 m3

Now
Volume of water in canal = Volume of area irrigated
Volume of water in canal = Area irrigated Height
5000 6 1.5 m3 = Area irrigated 4 cm
5000 6 1.5 m3 = Area irrigated m
= Area irrigated
Area irrigated = 1125000 m2
Area irrigated = hectares
Area irrigated = 112.5 hectares
12. Given: ABCD is a quadrilateral circumscribing a circle whose centre is O.
To prove:
i. AOB + COD = 180o
ii. BOC + AOD = 180o

Construction: Join OP, OQ, OR and OS.

Proof: Since tangents from an external point to a circle are equal.

AP = AS,
BP = BQ ........ (i)

myCBSEguide

CQ = CR
DR = DS
In OBP and OBQ,
OP = OQ [Radii of the same circle]
OB = OB [Common]
BP = BQ [From eq. (i)]
OPB OBQ [By SSS congruence criterion]
1 = 2 [By C.P.C.T.]
Similarly, 3 = 4, 5 = 6, 7 = 8
Since, the sum of all the angles round a point is equal to 360o.
1+ 2+ 3+ 4+ 5+ 6+ 7+ 8 = 360o
1+ 1+ 4+ 4+ 5+ 5+ 8+ 8 = 360o
2( 1+ 4+ 5+ 8) = 360o
1+ 4+ 5+ 8 = 180o
( 1+ 5) + ( 4 + 8) = 180o
AOB + COD = 180o
Similarly we can prove that
BOC + AOD = 180o

OR

Here, AB = 5 cm, BC = 12 cm and B = 90o

AC = AR + RC

Hence, radius of the circle = 2 cm

13. Let h is height of big building,here as per the diagram.
AE = CD = 8 m (Given)
BE = AB-AE = (h - 8) m
Let AC = DE = x
Also,

In ACB,

x = h, ...(i)
In BDE,

From (i) and (ii), we get

h=

Hence height of the multistory building is 18.92 m and the distance between two buildings is 18.92 m.
14. Number of bricks in the bottom row=30. in the next row=29, and so on.
therefore, Number of bricks stacked in each row form a sequence 30, 29, 28, 27,... , which is an AP with
first term , =30 and common difference, = 29 - 30 = -1.
Suppose number of rows is , then sum of number of bricks in n rows should be 360
i.e.

Hence, number of rows is either 45 or 16.
When, ,
