7. Description

Passover is the biggest holiday in Israel and a season to commemorate one of the important events of
the Old Testament. God heard the suffering of the Israelites who had been servants in Egypt for 400 years
and raised Moses to save them. And he delivered the word to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, through Moses, to
let the Israelites go. After that, God sent ten plagues on Egypt, and the last plague was the death of the
firstborn. This plague killed all the firstborn of Egypt, but the plague did not come upon the Israelites who
smeared lamb's blood on their doorposts and lintels. This feast was named 'Passover' in the sense of "the
plague passed over the Israelites without reaching it."

As the Bible records the Passover meal of Jesus and his disciples, Israel traditionally has a meal culture
to celebrate the Passover. In general, the Passover meal is matzo, wine, mutton, lamb's shank, boiled egg,
bitter herbs, lettuce, salt water, and harosset (a mixture of apples, cinnamon, honey, wine, etc.). It
symbolizes.) etc. are prepared and eaten according to the prescribed order. They share a meal and have
time to remember and give thanks to God for saving their ancestors. In Israel, the meaning of Passover is
close to 'festival'. Because they do not believe in the substitutionary death of Christ.

However, for us, the Passover is a time to deeply meditate on Christ's suffering, suffering, and
vicarious death. At the last Passover meal with his disciples, Jesus shared bread and wine and clearly
taught the meaning of the substitutionary death he would endure on the cross. The bread represents the
body of Jesus to be crucified, and the breaking of the bread means that the body of Jesus will be torn.
The wine represents the blood of Jesus that will be shed to redeem us. After Jesus told us about the
suffering and substitutionary death he would endure for our salvation, he asked us to commemorate this
whenever we ate and drank bread and wine.

As in Jesus' Passover meal, sharing bread and wine and celebrating its meaning is called 'Communion'.
The Lord's Supper observed in the church today is not a custom made in the early church, but was
instituted by Jesus Himself. It is also what he has commanded us to keep. Whenever we break bread and
drink wine, we must remember Jesus' broken body and shed blood. We must remember Jesus who
suffered and died as a ransom sacrifice to save us.

We must correctly understand why the sacrifice of Jesus was necessary. The wages of sin is death

1
(Rom. 6:23), and we cannot escape from sin. Therefore, Jesus suffered and died on the cross to pay the
penalty for our sins and save us from our sins. We must understand and accept the great death and grace
of Jesus.

In Lesson 4, let the children know that Jesus' suffering was to redeem us. And whenever we worship, let us
remember Jesus who suffered for us.

8. Key words

I. Thought field (introduction)

(Showing the front cover of the notebook) Here is Kate's

notebook. (Opening the notebook) What is written in this?
(Listening to the answer, pointing to the heart mark and
phone number respectively) The birthdays of Dad and
Mom are marked, and the phone numbers of family
members are written. Why did Kate write these things
down? They are important things so she won't forget them.

So we try to remember the important things. However, there is something we must remember as believers
in Jesus. What could it be? Let's find out through the Word. (Read 1 Corinthians 11:24-26 with the
children.)

words to Memolize => Explain Repeat & Memorize

“Ang kopang ito ang bagong tipan na pinagtitibay ng aking dugo. Tuwing iinumin ninyo ito,
gawin ninyo bilang pag-aalaala sa akin.” (1 Corinthians 11:25b)

II. Word Field (Lesson or Preaching)

(Showing 4-1) A few days after the Lord Jesus entered Jerusalem, the
Passover, a big holiday in Israel, came. The Passover is a day to remember and
give thanks to God for saving the Israelites who lived as slaves in Egypt. So on
this day, the Israelites ate together and thanked God for saving them. Jesus ate
the Passover meal with his disciples. Because Jesus had to tell his disciples a
very important story.

(Show 4-2, point to the bread) Jesus first took the bread and gave thanks to God. And he
broke the bread and gave it to his disciples, saying, “This bread is my body,
freely given for you. Remember me whenever you eat this.” (1 Corinthians
11:24)

What did Jesus say bread was? (Hearing the answer) He said it was the body of Jesus (pointing to
2
the speech bubble) This meant that Jesus would be whipped and suffered for the people.

(Pointing to the wine glass) This time Jesus took the wine glass and gave thanks to God. And he
gave the wine to his disciples and said,

“This wine is my blood, poured out for the forgiveness of your sins. Whenever you drink this,
remember me.” (1 Corinthians 11:25)

What did Jesus say wine was? (After hearing the answer) He said it was the blood of Jesus.
(Pointing to the speech bubble) This meant that Jesus would shed his blood and die on the cross
to forgive people's sins.

Jesus did not want his disciples to forget Jesus, who suffered to save people. So he gave them
bread and wine and asked them to remember Jesus who suffered whenever they ate it.

(Show 4-3) Jesus shed his blood and died on the cross just as he said. He
gave his body freely. Why did Jesus, who had no sin, die on the cross? (Hearing
the answer) He is just to save us sinners. We must remember Jesus who
suffered for us until Jesus returns.

Prayer. Manalangin po tayo! (Let the children follow.)

God, Jesus was whipped and bled to death on the cross. It's for us. Help us to remember Jesus
who suffered for us every day. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Ⅳ. Activity (Group lesson) –

1. After completing the confession, talk about the need to remember Jesus who suffered.

Jesus was beaten with his whip and bled to death on the cross. We must
remember this. Why should we remember Jesus who suffered? (Talk freely.) It is
because Jesus suffered for us. Jesus loved us so much that he was punished in our
place as sinners. So, we must remember Jesus who suffered for us. Do you believe
that Jesus suffered for us? (Listen to the answer.) (Distributes “church” so that the
confession is visible) If so, write your name in the blanks. (Give time.)

Tip1. If a child has difficulty writing, the teacher holds the child's hand and writes
the name together. Now put in your name and speak after me. “Jesus suffered
for Maria.”

Tip2. Ask this question. • Why should we remember Jesus more when we worship? (Talk freely.)
It is because we became children of God because of Jesus. Because Jesus died on the cross in
our place, we who were sinners were saved and became God's children. Worship is for God's
children to exalt God. However, we must remember Jesus every time we worship. Furthermore, we
must be grateful and rejoice for saving us.

2.Learn how to remember Jesus who suffered.

Then, when should we remember Jesus who suffered? (Talk freely.) Wherever we are, whatever we
do, we must remember Jesus who suffered. In particular, when believers in Jesus gather to
worship, they must remember Jesus who suffered. Let's find out what we must do to remember
Jesus who suffered well when we worship today.

① (Pointing to the “children who praise”) What are these children doing? (Listen to the
answer.)

How can we remember Jesus who suffered when we praise? (Sing a hymn about the sufferings of
Jesus. / Praise the suffering Jesus with a grateful heart.)

4
② (Pointing to the “children praying”) What are these children doing? (Listen to the answer.)

How can we remember Jesus who suffered when we pray? (I confess that I am grateful to Jesus
who suffered. / Thinking of the suffering Jesus and praying.)

③(Pointing to “children listening to the Word”) What are these children doing? (Listen to the
answer.)

How can we remember Jesus who suffered when we hear the Word? [Listen carefully to what the
pastor has to say. / Do not think of anything else, just think of Jesus who suffered and listen.]

As you said, when we praise, pray, and listen to the Word, we must think of Jesus who suffered
for us and have a grateful heart.

Say this – There is another time when we must remember Jesus who
suffered, and that is when we sin. Whenever we sin, we must remember Jesus who died on behalf
of us sinners. And we must confess our sins to Jesus and do our best not to sin again, feeling
sorry for ourselves, saying, ‘Jesus died because of this kind of me!’.

Can you promise to remember the suffering Jesus well every time you worship? (Listen to the
answer.) If so, follow me. “Remember Jesus who suffered for me!”

4, after arranging what you have learned, finish with prayer

Remember Jesus who suffered for us. Also, let's be me and you worshiping with a heart of
gratitude to Jesus who saved us.
