TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY

Pros
Improves efficiency for Business
The best advantage of any technology is that it increases the efficiency of a business
process.
We can perform more tasks in less time. From shared drives to emails, communication,
coordination, execution and implementation of a lot of business processes has become
swift and hassle-free, all thanks to technology.

Saves time
A very obvious advantage of technology is that it saves time. As we are able to
complete a task in less time, we can utilize the time saved for other important activities.
With the help of technology a lot of activities such as cooking, cleaning and working
are completed faster.

Better communication
In earlier times, communicating with a person belonging to a different part of the world
was difficult. Think about it! Think back to the time when people had to communicate
using pigeons or letters, something that took days or weeks! with a person sitting in
another corner of the world, all thanks to technology.

More Job Opportunities

Technology has created an immense amount of new jobs in our world’s economy. An
entirely new group of people are needed to work with, develop, and maintain all of the
new technology in homes and the workplace.

Education (EdTech)
We already have many learning platforms aggregating courses for different age
groups, all from different fields and industries.
This make the education more personal and according to your abilities
But tech influence on education does not end on virtual learning. Thanks to the use of
virtual reality, Artificial Intelligence, neuroscience, and learning sciences tech makes
learning a more immersive and holistic experience in class. Startups like Immerse use
VR to help students learn English by communicating and practising their English skills
through a range of topics and themes with a VR headset.

Incredible Medical Care

A lot of new technology is constantly being developed for the medical field. Surgical
procedures and every day functions have been made so simple and efficient that the
level of sickness and accidents have decreased significantly
Cons
A Society Divide
Technology is expensive, and keeping up with the latest trends is almost impossible
for someone who isn’t in the upper class. This has caused a major social divide
among the population of people who can and cannot afford these technologies.
Extreme dependability
With each passing day, we are becoming more and more dependent on technology
for almost every task without even realizing it. A common example of this is using a
cab service. Another example is using GPS to know the directions of any desired
location. A lot of people today do not bother learning or memorizing directions
because they depend on Google Maps for it. In a lot of ways, that’s not a good path
we’re going down!
Fact : Over 90% of all adults have their mobile phone within arms reach of them at
all times
Out of the population of 7 billion people on the entire world, 4 billion of them
have mobile phones
A Generation of Laziness
With every thing made easier, or completely done for us, through the use of
technology, people are slowly but surely forgetting how to to do things the old
fashioned way…good old hard work. You no longer have to pull out the dictionary or
visit the library if you want information, you can simply type in a question and get an
answer. This is also true for children, they are becoming more and more focused on
things like the internet and video games that they are spending much less time
outside and being active.
Quickly Becomes Obsolete
The more that technology advances, the faster new and more efficient versions are
designed. This is a problem because you may have the newest and best piece of
technology, but it will become obsolete in very little time. It is causing our landfills to
be filled up with no longer used computers, cell phones, and other things that are
damaging to the environment

Expensive
Although technology is already a part of many people’s lives, there are still some
people out there who cannot afford some technologies. Many technologies that are
being used by the organizations are expensive. As a one of that it can only be used
by those who can afford it.

Shortage of Jobs
With technology, the efficiency of a task has increased tenfold and this is the reason
why the technology might be able to replace humans soon. An increase in
technology is going to ensure that tasks that humans could do earlier can now be
achieved by machines and technology. Thus, creating a shortage of Jobs more
efficiently than humans. Thus, with the rise of can be replaced by algorithms and
robots.

Malfunctions

The biggest disadvantage of technology is that all are machine driven. And a minor
lapse in the functioning can create a situation that cannot be controlled. So, a minor
malfunction may cause a complete can cost a human life as well.
Psychological effects
Isolation

Technologies, such as social media, are designed to bring people together, yet they
may have the opposite effect in some cases.

A 2017study in young adults aged 19–32 years found that people with higher social
media use were more than three times as likely to feel socially isolated than those
who did not use social media as often.

Finding ways to reduce social media use, such as setting time limits for social apps,
may help reduce feelings of isolation in some people.

Depression and anxiety

Their research found mixed results. People who had more positive interactions and
social support on these platforms appeared to have lower levels of depression and
anxiety.

However, the reverse was also true. People who perceived that they had more
negative social interactions online and who were more prone to social comparison
experienced higher levels of depression and anxiety.

Physical health effects

Eyestrain

Technologies, such as handheld tablets, smartphones, and computers, can hold a

person’s attention for long periods. This may lead to eyestrain.

Symptoms of digital eyestrain can include blurred vision and dry eyes. Eyestrain
may also lead to pains in other areas of the body, such as the head, neck, or
shoulders.

Poor posture

The way many people use mobile devices and computers may also contribute to
incorrect posture. Over time, this may lead to musculoskeletal issues.

Sleep problems

Using technology too close to bedtime may cause issues with sleep. This effect has
to do with the fact that blue light, such as the light from cell phones, e-readers, and
computers, stimulates the brain.

Reduced physical activity

Most everyday digital technologies are sedentary. More extended use of these
technologies promotes a more sedentary lifestyle,
