Google Pixel Fold
Have you ever looked at your Google Pixel
phone and wished there was just, well,
more of it? Then you’re in luck.
It shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that
the Fold shares some of its DNA with the
7 Pro – notably the Tensor G2 chip and
12GB of RAM – but if you open it up you get
7.6in of FHD+ OLED to play with – nearly
an inch more than on the front of the Pro.
The 5.8in outer screen is also an OLED,
while both refresh at up to 120Hz, so
whichever one you’re scrolling on it’ll be
as slick as a fish down a flume.
The bump on the back will look familiar too.
It hosts a 48MP main snapper with OIS,
a 10.8MP ultrawide with 121° field of view
and a 10.8MP telephoto good for 5x optical
zoom. There’s also a 9.5MP selfie shooter
on the front of the phone, along with an
8MP camera built into the inner screen’s
bezel for video calling.
One more thing it shares with the Pixel 7
Pro is the £749 price… well, nearly. You just
have to add a teeny little ‘1’ at the front.

Asus ROG Ally
We love Valve’s Steam Deck so much we
crowned it Gadget of the Year for 2022…
but if there’s one thing that’s guaranteed
to turn our heads like the guy in the
Distracted Boyfriend meme, it’s a more
powerful version of something we’ve
already got. On this occasion, it’s Asus’s
ROG Ally that’s got our attention – and
it’s not hard to see why.
Its AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor is
designed specifically for handheld gaming,
with eight cores, 16 threads and a whopping
5.1GHz boost speed, while the GPU has 12
RDNA3 cores that can clock up to 2.7GHz.
There’s also 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a
512GB NVMe SSD. That’s a lot of numbers,
but essentially it all means it’ll be more
than happy to munch through AAA titles,
either at the 7in 120Hz touchscreen’s
native 1080p resolution or with AMD’s
FidelityFX and Radeon Super Resolution
upscaling tech.
With full support for Steam, Xbox Game
Pass Ultimate, the EA app, Epic Games
Store and more, it doesn’t really matter
where you get your games from, while the
optional ROG Gaming Charger Dock (£60)
means you can also connect a controller or
two and hook it up to the telly.

their picnic basket appears to be pumping

you’ll realise B&O’s latest 360° speaker has

and turned up in disguise.
The A5’s ‘nordic weave’ finish and oak

GRILLE-FRIEND

Amazon Echo Pop
Alexa has come in all shapes and sizes
since she first popped up in 2014’s original
Echo. From cylinders and spheres to pucks
and panels, Amazon seems to be on an
eternal quest to make a smart speaker
that’ll fit into every nook – and the Pop
is its latest addition.
With a rounded rear end and a flat front
that’s almost entirely speaker grille, it
looks like a Dot that’s been sent to the
guillotine, which is quite apt considering
the Pop usurps it as the most affordable
offering in the Echo range. A light strip
along the top edge lets you know when
Alexa is listening, and it uses the same
AZ2 chip as the Echo Show 15 to do all the
usual smart-speaker jobs: play music,
control gadgets, give weather updates,
