i. ‘Animals’ is a poem written by Walt Whitman. In this poem the poet is conveying that
animals are far better than the human beings. Animals never weep or bother for their
worsening condition. They embrace whatever comes in their ways be it joy or pain. They
do not set back and start grudging and grumbling about their bad condition. The poem
teaches us that we should learn from the qualities of animals who live in peace and
content of atmosphere.
Change is the rule of nature. Everything undergoes some change with the passage of
time. Some changes face the better conditions while some touch the worse. Being
partner of the changing situations, we should be able to accept both happiness and
sadness that emerge from the womb of change. They are cyclic. We must not be
selective all the time. We must not weep over our sadness.
We must not cry at our work condition rather we must either try to accept or improve if
we can.

invitation, he showed it to his wife and he was so elated that it would make his wife
happy.
He was fond of shooting birds. He wanted to take part in shooting larks next summer.
Some of his friends were also going for shooting. So, he was saving money. He wanted to
purchase a gun with that money. But he sacrificed this money for buying a pretty dress
for his wife so that she could attend a big party and enjoy it.
When the costly necklace is lost, he spends all his savings and even borrow to repay it.

iii. The lawyer is a junior clerk assistant. His job is to serve the summons. He hates his work.
By nature, the lawyer seems to be a simpleton and inexperienced person. He is a
gullible. He trusts a hack driver and the same person plays a trick upon him. He befools
him whole day.
The lawyer has yet to come to terms with the way the people in this world function.
Being a lawyer, he could have easily avoided being duped by a stranger. Before visiting
that village, he could have gathered important information regarding Lutkins. He could
have taken a photograph of Lutkins along with him, most importantly, he should not
have discussed his purpose of his visit with a total stranger, as it was a matter that
involved law and security. He was really a very simple person.
The narrator had accompanied the hack driver ‘Bill’, to find Lutkins, to many
neighbourhood houses. One neighbour was left, where the narrator could not go.
Lutkins and his mother described the young lawyer as an innocent boy who had been
duped by Lutkins. This neighbour was also keen to look at the young lawyer who was
duped by Lutkins.
