When you want to express your opinion, you can say:

• In my opinion,…

• In my view,…

• From my perspective,...

Can you cook?

-Oh yes, I love to cook. Honestly, I don’t think I can cook very well but I always try my best. I consider it
one of my hobbies.

I know a little. I can cook simple dishes and some pastries like tiramisu, mousse, cheese and the like. It
doesn't taste as good as the store, but everyone in my family and friends love it

Who does the cooking in your family?

-My mom does. Sometimes my older sister cooks for dinner. On weekends, I sometimes cook too.

Well, my mother is in charge to prepare food and look after the menu. We have a housemaid
who helps my mother in that. Sometimes my elder sister assists my mom in cooking but this is a
very rare occasion as she is quite busy with her studies.

What is your main meal in the day?

– Well, I can say, lunch is my main meal. I usually skip breakfast and I just have light dinner.

Because my house is quite far from school and roads are often blocked, I will only have 1 meal a day,
which is dinner. Every day I go to school from morning till late night, and my roommates will cook and
eat together

On what occasions do you eat special foods?

I eat special foods on special occasions like birthday parties, weddings, New Year and etc. Even on small
and simple gatherings, there are special foods too

etc. Even on small and simple gatherings, there are special foods too
Which foods from your country do most foreign people enjoy?

-I think foreign people are always eager to try local and exotic foods. Tourists and foreigners eat our
local and traditional foods in my country.
I think foreign people are always eager to try local and exotic foods. Tourists and
foreigners eat our local and traditional foods in my country.
On what occasions do you eat special foods?

-No, not very much. Aside from being unhealthy, I am not fond of salty foods.

Recently I’ve been thinking about healthy eating, so I’ve tried my best to find a snack that is
both scrumptious and low-carb. And finally I found Sua Chua Nep Cam, which is a mixture of
brown glutinous rice and unsweetened yogurt. I have eaten this on a daily basis, and now I’ve
lost 2kg.

What kinds of meals do you like?

Oh, I adore different meat plates… My mouth is watering whenever I see roast beef, grilled chicken or
pork chops… However, I don’t like to cook… That's why I often eat ready meals and take-aways.

I love brunch. It’s definitely unhealthy, I know, but this kind of meal saves me quite
a lot of time for a longer sleep in the morning, which I really desire.

Do you often dinner with your family or friends?

Well, I try to dinner with my family as often as possible… Unfortunately, I don’t have enough time for
such dinners due to my busy schedule...

Well, I live far away from home, so I don’t usually have a meal with my family.
Instead, I always dine out with some of my close friends. Honestly, one can hardly
ever see me eating alone.

When do you usually eat dinner?

I usually have main meal at about 4 p.m. … I'm starving hungry by then and sometimes overeat myself...

I usually have my work finished at around 9 p.m., so it’s likely that my dinner will
start at about 9:30. It’s quite late, I know, and I’m attempting to rearrange my
schedule to make it easier to have an earlier dinner.

Are there any fruits or vegetables you don’t like? Why?

Yes, there are… I’m not a fussy eater, but I really hate onions and seafood… I try to avoid meals that
might contain these products…
Well, I’m a hearty eater, so basically, I can eat nearly all kinds of food. However,
there is a sort of fruit that I really detest. It is durian and the reason is pretty
simple – I can’t bear its terrible taste and smell.

And what is your favorite cuisine?

Well, I love French cuisine for its flavorful ingredients.... French cuisine has a variety of dishes, starting
from their famous onion soup and ending with cheese fondue... Also, it rarely uses artificial ingredients
or flavors.

It’s kind of weird but I’m a die-hard fan of Vietnamese cuisine. It seems like I will
never get tired of eating dishes like Pho or spring rolls. The taste, smell and texture
of all the ingredients in these dishes are perfect to my taste buds.

Switch Roles

Let’s switch roles. Now you take the lead in asking questions and giving your opinion. Here are some
questions to get you started.

Do you prefer home-cooked meals over those served at restaurants?

I prefer home-cooked food because I think it's healthier and you know exactly what you're
eating. I also enjoy cooking for family and friends.

• Do you often go for midnight snacks?

More often than I should, probably.

I’m a night owl, and usually stay up until somewhere between 11 pm and 3 am. We eat
dinner rather early because my friend is on a completely different schedule, and is usually to
work at 5:30 or 6:00. I almost never eat breakfast other than my smoothie, and lunch is later
in the day than most people eat. My dinner is about a half portion because I eat lunch so
late. So I get a snack in somewhere around 8 or 9 or later, depending on whether I get
hungry.

My snacks are very small though not especially healthy. Maybe I’ll have two pretzel sticks, an
ounce or so of roasted nuts, or a handful of potato chips (crisps) with onion dip. Sometimes
I heat up small portions of meat like a couple slices of bacon or breakfast sausage links.
Maybe I’ll make a quesadilla. I almost never eat sweets, but I might have a small cookie
(biscuit).

• How many times do you usually eat in a day?

This really depends a lot on culture, lifestyle, and so forth. In the U.S., the custom is to have
three meals a day—breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In other nations, this is a similar rule.
Many countries follow the siesta approach to have lunchtime being the main meal of the
day while others hold dinner time as the main meal.
• What do you usually eat for snacks?

Around mid morning I usually have some fruit and then

about 3pm I have some biscuits or something like that.
What food did you enjoy eating as a child?

I mostly like homemade foods. They are hygienic, made from organic sources and have no
chemicals or adhesive. However, my preference in homemade foods does not discourage me to
dine outside. I prefer having dinner in a Chinese or Italian restaurant as I love their menu. I am
also fond of Pizza and Sandwich.

• What food is your country most famous for?

Well, I would say that I’m not a picky eater and I can eat like the whole universe. But if i have to
choose, I would definitely go for Vietnamese traditional cuisine because although it does not
win any points for complexity, it is all about the combination of fresh ingredients, intense
flavours, and ease of cooking and preparation, so it wins my heart.

• What sorts of food do you try to stay away from?

7 foods that are generally unhealthy — although most people can eat them in moderation on
special occasions without any permanent damage to their health.
1. Sugary drinks. ...
2. Most pizzas. ...
3. White bread. ...
4. Most fruit juices. ...
5. Sweetened breakfast cereals. ...
6. Fried, grilled, or broiled food. ...
7. Pastries, cookies, and cakes.

• What is the most staple food in your country?

The most staple crop in Vietnam is rice. It's grown almost everywhere, and thanks to the fact that the
climate and soil quality in my country is very suitable to grow rice, Vietnam has become the second
largest rice exporter in the world, providing million tons of rice to the global market.
