 Reassuring :
q I am sorry to hear that, it must have been very difficult for you.

confirmed so let’s wait until we know for certain.

 Diagnosis and Next step:

 Bad news:

q Unfortunately the results are not promising. You know it is a little bit concerning.
q For Now, keep calm and try to be positive and hopeful.

q I am afraid that the news aren’t good
q His condition has deteriorated rapidly and I want you to be prepared for the worst
q We can hope for the best but your father may only have few days

 Refuse:
q I wish I could prescribe/refill the medication
q It is professional misconduct to disclose information of patients to others w/o their
permission.
q Physicians are required by law to report any suspicion of neglect or endangerment
q We need to take some permissions and the bureaucracy is very complicated
q But what you are asking me is out of my control/power
q I am not authorized legally
