District-wise Warning Map (IMD)

GENERAL ADVISORY
Delhi recorded its highest rainfall (in a single day) in 41 years. The city witnessed
heavy rains that caused damage to property and traffic snarls due to
waterlogging. Rains are expected to continue till July 10 before gradually reducing.
Delhi is witnessing heavy rains due to incessant rains in North and Northwest
India, accentuated by a Western Disturbance.
Heavy rains are expected to continue till July 10 in the Delhi-NCR region.
Residents are advised to stay indoors due to high levels of waterlogging.
Waterlogged areas pose a risk to residents as there may be underwater
debris, large potholes, and open manholes.
Corporates and businesses are advised to consider the work-from-home
option for July 10. This is in line with the Gurugram district administration’s
advisory for corporates to work from home on July 10. Traffic delays are very
likely, and employees attempting to cross waterlogged areas face the risk of
physical harm.

Businesses are advised to note that delays may occur in the supply chain due
to transportation issues in the Delhi-NCR region. Business continuity may be
negatively impacted since the workforce and supply chains may face delays
due to waterlogging, traffic, and re-routing to divert heavy vehicles from city
areas.
Waterlogging poses a risk of electrocution if exposed power lines are in close
proximity. Residents are advised to avoid electric poles close to waterlogged
areas.
Stagnant water poses a health risk due to water-borne diseases. Residents are
advised to monitor the cleanliness of their drinking water source and avoid
consuming exposed food.
Commuters are advised to note that driving through heavily waterlogged
areas may cause the vehicle to stop functioning. Non-essential travel is not
advised.

LOCATIONS IMPACTED

A. Delhi-NCR
Delhi-NCR recorded very heavy rains on July 9. New Delhi and Central Delhi
received a red alert for July 9, while all other areas received an orange alert.
Damage to property caused by rain was reported in Delhi’s Srinivaspuri,
Zakhira, Kailash, Kalkaji, and Karol Bagh among others. A road cave-in was
reported in Rohini area.
Water level in the Yamuna River is expected to rise on July 11, with a likelihood
of flooding possible in low-lying areas close to the Yamuna.
Waterlogging reported:
In Delhi, in the areas of Feroz Shah Road, ITO, Greater Kailash, Mandi
House, Janpath, Mathura Road, Pragati Maidan Tunnel, Najafgarh,
Dwarka, Okhla Metro Station, and Khan Market among others.

In Gurugram, waterlogging was reported in DLF Phase 1 & 3, Sectors 4, 5, 9,


10, 22, 48, 51; South City; Sadar Police Station; Palam Vihar; Suncity
Township, and many more areas. Waterlogging was also reported in
flood-prone areas such as Hero Honda Chowk, Rajeev Chowk, Subhash
Chowk (and Underpass), Sohna Road, Udyog Vihar, Arcadia Market, Golf
Course Road, and Narsingpur, while the Gurugram Metropolitan
Development Authority (GMDA) cleared some of the areas on July 9
afternoon. The GMDA closed underpasses and subways for non-
motorized transport until the rains reduce.

B. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh,


Punjab, and Haryana

Heavy rainfall is expected for the region till July 10, even as heavy rain was
recorded in the region on July 9.
IMD continued an orange alert for the districts of Leh and Kargil.
IMD issued a red alert for Kathua and Samba districts in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Jammu-Srinagar Highway has been closed due to heavy rain.
In Uttarakhand, Uttarkashi, Tehri Garhwal, Dehradun, and Haridwar districts
received a red alert while the remaining districts received an orange alert.

In Himachal Pradesh, the districts of Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra,


Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, and Una received a red alert while Lahaul
and Spiti district received an orange alert.
Residents have been advised not to venture close to rivers. Mandi-Kullu
National Highway and Pathankot-Chamba Highway have been
temporarily closed due to landslides. Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra has been
suspended.
In Haryana, Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Rewari, Jhajjar, Gurugram, and Mewat
districts received an orange alert.
In Punjab, Hoshiarpur, Nawashahr, Rupnagar, and Patiala districts received an
orange alert. Flooding was reported in Dera Bassi.
Chandigarh’s Sukna Lake witnessed a rise in water levels and is expected to
continue receiving rain till July 10.
In Uttar Pradesh, IMD continued an orange alert in Sharanpur, Muzzafarnagar,
Bijnor, Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Moradabad, Meerut, and Baghpat districts.

C. Rajasthan and Gujarat

IMD issued an orange alert for Banaskantha, Patan, Surendranagar, Morbi and
Kachchh districts.
In Rajasthan, Alwar, Nagaur, Sirohi, and Pali districts received orange alerts.
