The characters were conceived in the lobby of James. L. Brooks’ office and were named after his own family members, substituting “Bart” for his own name. The family debuted as shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show on April 19, 1987. After a three-season run, the sketch was developed into a half-hour prime time show called The Simpsons. ‘The show was first released on December 17, 1989. The show was an early hit for Fox, and was awarded lots of prizes, including 34 Primetime Emmy Awards. Ina 1999 issue celebrating the 20th century's greatest achievements in arts and entertainment, The Simpsons was named byTime magazine as the century's best television series. In that same issue, Bart Simpson was included in the Time 100, the publication's list of the century's 100 most influential people. In 2015, the sitcom was named as one of the 10 best TV sitcoms of all time by British newspaper The Telegraph. The Simpsons is known because of their famous characters, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie, who live in Springfield. In the episodes they are shown as a disfunetional family who cares for each other in their own way. They also have a dog, Santa’s Little Helper and a cat Snowball V. There ate_famous supporting characters too who are given important roles in different episodes as Ned Flanders, Apu, Moe and Milhouse. Cultural references are inserted with humor in the show, covering a wide spectrum of society so that viewers from all generations can enjoy the show.
