Detailed Lesson Plan in Science VI

I- OBJECTIVES
At the end of 50 minutes, 95% of the pupils can:

a. identify the members of the solar system;

b. analyze the characteristics of the Sun and the eight planets in the solar
system;
c. evaluate the significance of the Sun’s role in maintaining life on Earth and its
impact on the other planets; and
d. illustrate through a diagram how the members the solar system revolves
around the sun.

II- SUBJECT MATTER

TOPIC: SOLAR SYSTEM

III- PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Routine

a. Prayer
Before we start our lesson this morning, (Pupils will stand and pray)
let us ask first the guidance of our
Almighty Allah. Please stand for a prayer to
be led by Haydar.

b. Greetings
Good morning children! Good morning, Mam Amarela!
Good morning classmates!
Good morning!

c. Checking of attendance
Before we proceed let’s check your
attendance first.

Who is absent today? None ma’am!

Very good! It only means that you are all

interested for our lesson today.
Let’s give a barangay clap for everyone. (Pupils will do the barangay clap)

d. Energizer
Before we proceed to our lesson, let us
shake our body first and exercise our (The pupils will sing and dance)
tongue. Let’s do the Lulaley energizer.

e. Setting of standards
Class, what will you do if your teacher is
talking in front? Sit properly and listen attentively.

Very good! What else? Do not talk with our seatmates if it’s not
activity-related.

Exactly! And if you are going to answer or

ask a question, what will you do? Raise our right-hand sir if we want to
answer or ask questions.
Precisely! That’s an awesome answer.
Those are our reminders while having our
class today. Is that understood? Yes ma’am!

B. Lesson Proper

a. Review
Children, what was our lesson last
meeting? Our lesson last meeting was all about
relating weather to our daily life
activities.
That’s right! Class, I have pictures here and
you have to choose what will be the
appropriate activity in that kind of
weather. This is to test if you really
understood our lesson last meeting. Are
you ready? Yes ma’am. (The pupils will answer the
activity)
Excellent! Any questions about our topic
last meeting?
None ma’am.

b. Unlocking of Difficulties

Non – Luminous – are objects that do not

produce their own light.

Celestial Bodies - are objects in space such

as sun, moon, planets, stars.

Planetoid – a small body resembling a

planet.

c. Motivation

Class, I will show you a short presentation.

Are you ready to see it?
Class, why do you think the study of the Yes ma’am!
solar system is important?
(The teacher will show a short

other?
The pupils will answer.

d. Presentation of the Lesson

The pupils will answer.
Class, after our game, do you have an idea
now what will be our topic for today?

Class, I want you to watch a video clip for

you to better understand our lesson this
morning, to understand how our heavenly
bodies in the solar system move or form.
Then, while you are watching, I want you
to jot down all the important details about
the solar system. Understand? Yes teacher!
(The learners will watch another video)
e. Development of the Lesson

Class, let’s do another activity. This activity

is called “Planet Fact Cards”. First, you
need to group yourselves into 4 or 5
members. I will give each group a set of
cards, each representing planet in the
solar system. You need to research and
find information about the planet that you
saw in your cards. Write down important
facts such as size, composition, distance
from the Sun, and any unique features.
After researching, gather around each
group to share your findings. Then each of

class?

(The pupils will do the task)

Class, what interesting facts did you
discover about your assigned planet?

How do the characteristics of the different

planets in the solar system vary?

The pupils will answer.

What is solar system?

The pupils will answer.

That is the sun ma’am!

The sun is a star located at the center of

our solar system. It is a massive ball of
hot plasma, with a diameter of about 1.4
million kilometers. It has a surface
temperature of about 5,500 degrees

There are eight known planets in our

Understood?

Yes ma’am.

f. Application

Class, to test if you really understand our

lesson this morning, I will group you into
two groups. In the first group, I will give
pictures of the different celestial bodies
and you should illustrate it through a
diagram on how the celestial bodies
revolve around the sun.

On the second group, I will give you the (The pupils will do the group activity)
names of the planets and you have to
represent each celestial body and move
around to imitate how the celestial bodies
revolve around the sun.

Do you understand my instruction class?

IV- EVALUATION
Direction: Please answer explicitly the question below.

Choose three planets of your choice and discuss each characteristics and their
roles in the solar system.

V- ASSIGNMENT

Research and discuss the potential implications of discovering a ninth planet in

the solar system. How might it affect our understanding of the formation and
evolution of the solar system?
