Max Marks 100 Note: Attempt any Five questions. All questions carry equal marks. 1. What are the different types of Production? Discuss them in brief. Also discuss in detail about the manufacturing support system.. 2. (a) Discuss different performance criteria for measuring the ASRS capabilities. (b) The rack of an AS/RS system has 20 shelves vertically and 40 shelves horizontally. The bins to be kept in the shelves are 50 inches in length and 35 inches in height. The clearance required I vertical and horizontal directions are 10 and 8 inches respectively. If the velocities of storage/ retrieval machine in vertical and horizontal directions are 50 ft/min and 100 ft/min respectively, find out the shuttling time if the average dual command transaction time is 5 min. 3. (a) What are the required considerations to be made for material handling system design? (b) Given below are the tips and distances matrices in between four departments of a manufacturing unit. (please see the attachment) Trips in between departments (please see the attachment) Distances in between Departments. If the handling system to be employed has a traffic factor of 0.8 assuming that no empty movement, average velocity of the handling system 50 min/min, and handling time 0.5 min per transaction, fine the required capacity of the material handling system. 4. (a) Describe in detail about MRP II and its working. (b) The following Table:1 lists the routing of 8 parts that are being considered for cellular manufacturing in a machine shop. For the data given, develop a part-m/s incidence matrix and identify possible part families and machine groups. Also identify the bottleneck part, if any. (same matter on the attachment also) Part Machine Routing A 1 ->3->7 B 1 ->4->7 C 3->4 D 2 ->5->7 E 2->6 F 3 ->1->4 G 5 ->6->7 H 2 ->5->6 5. (a) What are the part families? What are the different methods to form the part families? What
are the different types of coding systems? Write in detail about the MICLASS coding system. (b) Demand of a certain product is 250000 per year. Unit cost Rs. 10. holding cost rate = 30% year. Changeover time between products 10 hours and downtime cost during changeover = Rs. 150 per hour. Determine: (i) economic order quantity (ii) total inventory cost. (iii) total inventory cost per year as a proportion of total production cost. 6. (a) What are different functions (phases) we perform for the shop floor control? Describe in detail. (b) Suppose the input signal is 6.8 V. Use he successive approximation method to encode the signal for a 6 bit register for an Analog to Digital Converter with full scale range of 10 V. 7. Classify the automatic inspection techniques. Write about each type in detail with example. 8. Describe three basic network topologies. What is the need of having manufacturing automation protocols. Also discuss the function of each layer in ISO- OSI.
