Field Study 1 - Learning Episode 5
OBSERVE
Observe and use the observation sheet provided for you to document your observations.
1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note
their ages.
I observed that there are 29 diverse learners in the class age range from 16
18 years old. Some of them are busy on doing the assigned task and really
participates specially those students who are academically good and some of
them are doing their own business like talking with seatmates, writing on their
notebooks or just simply staying quite watching their classmates. I am not
sure if they belong to students who are low in academic or they just a shy type
but also knows a lot of things. That is why I said diverse learners because
each on of them has their strength and weaknesses, they listen and
understand but has different ways of expressing their idea and shows their
intelligence.
3. Focus on their behavior. Are they able to manage their own behavior?
Not everyone in the class observes and manage their proper behavior. Some
of them were able to put their focus their mind and body on the given activity
however there are others who shows inappropriate behavior such as talking,
roaming around, and doing their own business instead of participating in the
activity and helps their group.
Yes they can work independently, I observe that every time they were given a
task most of them can pass it on time but their are few who also needs to be
monitored for their lacking or back logs.
They tend to listen longer as long as the teacher able to catch their interest. It
can be seen also that they really tried to listen especially the discussion is
about research which really needs a listening and comprehension skills in
order to fully understand.
ANALYZE
1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching
aids, books, student’s belongings, supplies, etc.)? Describe these areas. Will it
make a difference if these areas for specific purposes are not present?
Yes, there areas in the classroom for specific purposes, for instance a
cabinet or a bookshelves, where students can put their belongings and it
lessen the things that they will bring for the next day. It makes a difference
because the student would be hassle on bringing home some things that
aren’t needed. It will help them to secure their things instead of forgetting it
anywhere. The teacher also can benefit because he can store there his
visual aids needed for tomorrow’s discussion or for the other day.
2. Are there rules and procedures posted in the room? YES List them down. Do
these rules reinforce positive behavior? YES, classroom rules reinforce positive
behavior because students become responsible and disciplined for their action and
leads them to understand their task clearly.
3. Did the students participate in making the classroom rules? YES, If the
Resource Teacher is available, ask him/her to describe the process. What’s the
effect of students’ participation on rule-making on student’s behavior?
4. What are the daily routines done by the Resource Teacher? (prayer, attendance,
assignment of monitors, warm-up activities, etc.) How are they done?
The daily routines done by the Resource Teacher; To start the class, the
teacher greet the students and ask if they are ready for the class (it means
everything is already ready, done with the assigned task like cleaning and
others) after that the assigned student for that day will lead the prayer. Then
after that she asks everybody how they are doing and how was their
day/weekend. Usually students say they are doing good. She let them be
seated that starts to prepare her visual aid or presentation (laptop, projector).
She also record the attendance through calling the students’ assigned
number. After that, she proceeds with the lesson by a motivational activity.
When she is done in the discussion, follow up question is given either by the
teacher or the student to measure what they have learned. If there is activity
or assignment it will be given in the last part. If everything is done the
teacher will dismissed the class and leave an inspirational/motivational
saying for her students.
YES, the class were seated alphabetically following their last name from A to
Z and those students who has difficulties in sight or hearing, they will be
seated in front or anywhere they are comfortable with. Their arrangement is
permanent until the end of the school year. It helps in managing the class in
a way that the teacher the teacher will easily identify the absent students,
those who participated, and recognize those who are talking with their
seatmates.
Since the students are Senior High already the noise level in the classroom
is manageable or belongs to moderate level. Though they talk a lot with their
seatmate during break because they are not allowed to talk during class or
discussion as to the classroom rules unless they are participating, sharing
their ideas and oral recitation. In times that they needed to quite especially
instructed by the teacher to lower their voice they oblige.
The resource teacher did to reinforce positive behaviors are the following;
First, students who did great inside the classroom including the assigned
task, classroom rules and in the discussion are rewarded accordingly, this is
to motivate the students to do their best and behave well. Second, in
addressing problems it must be done in a friendly manner. She doesn’t scold
them, instead talks to them calmly. Lastly, make the class discussion
engaging and fun and celebrate achievements through praising them.

OBSERVE
1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learners’
behavior?
When you organize your classroom effectively, your students know what their
responsibilities are and what you expect of them. These routines can affect in a
way that it will increase student confidence and comfort levels since learners
know what is expected of them in different situations. It will help in working with
young learners and teens that need extra support in regulating their behavior.
2. What should the teacher have in mind when she/he designs the classroom
organization and routines?
A teacher should think the befitting classroom organizations and routines that
could also be fitting with the likings of her/his students in general. S/he needs to
include students mostly in deciding this issue for them to learn how they could
organize themselves and the routines, but of course with assistance from a
teacher. In order to coincide this with the students I did observe, I once asked a
student how did they designed their classroom, and she in did mentioned that
they did the most of the activities and the design in the classroom and with the
consent from the teacher.
For me the behavior strategies that effective in managing the behavior of the
learners and in motivating them is applying a rules in the classroom, but with a
good communication to the learners, talking to the learners in a nice way and
discuss the rules that the learner should follow. Also providing an environment
that is calm, safe for the students and free from distractions is also an effective
behavior strategies in managing the behavior and in motivating the students.
Why were they effective? Because the behavior strategy that the teacher uses is
very fair and as for me it is in favor for the learner, and it is really a learner-
centered strategy that is appropriate for the students, because a strategies like
this, like having a good environment can make the behavior of the student to be
literally good.

1. Imagine yourself organizing the classroom in the future. In what grade year level do
you see yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this level?
I would like to see myself handling the first year or grade 7 it is because it is
the first stage of the high school years and it would be the most memorable
year that they could have aside from the grade 12 where they will graduate,
what I mean is that this is the starting point. It is the time where we as a
teachers motivates them the most to know new something is in their first
year. In relation to their routines, I would like to implement a prayer before
our classes begin. Next here, I would like to start my discussion and alive
greetings for the students, and expected to have a feed back in them as well.
Thirdly, I would probably ask a certain student to recap on our lesson the
previews meeting, and then proceed to my lessons. I would end my lesson
through my students giving of a quote that will help them motivate their self
and the other, and end with a prayer.
2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level.
List of rules:
Be quiet when the teacher is talking and when your classmates are talking about
the lesson
Follow the teacher’s directions the first time they are given
Because this is what I think that can make them to be and do good inside the
classroom. I also believe the rules mentioned above would lead them to be a
better person where they’ll develop positive attitudes and be a responsible
individual which that they could bring outside the school setting.
Yes, if the students are part of making the rules they will tend to reflect on
their action and obey, with that they shows obedience and discipline and other
positive behavior, they will also tend to internalize these rules since they are
the one who made it
LINK THEORY TO PRACTICE
Directions: Read the items given below and encircle the correct answer
A. “Those who were noisy today during seat work will not be allowed to play
games in the computer later”
B. “If it takes you longer to finish the seat work because the time is wasted
with Chatting, then we won’t have time to go to the playground anymore”
C. “Those who are well-behaved in class will be given plus 5 points in the
quiz”
2. Learners are more likely to internalize and follow classroom rules when
B. The learners know the punishments for not following the rules
D. The teacher gives additional points for those who follow the rules
Consistently
D. Handle behavior problems promptly and with due respect to leaners’ rights
.
Paste pieces of evidence of classroom rules that work in class. You may also put
pictures of the physical space and learning stations which contribute to the effective
implementation of classroom management.
