ANSWERS

TASK 1:

It’s the letter (h) because language is a system of conventional spoken, signed, or
written symbols by which humans express themselves as members of a social group
and participants in its culture.

TASK 2:

A. For me, the shift in how people interact today vs the past is mostly a beneficial
development in communication. because it is more convenient, simple to use, and
portable.
B. Sentences exist in all languages; both the basic building pieces (parts of speech such
as nouns and verbs) and the mechanisms for forming sentences from these building
blocks are similar across languages. Languages differ in a variety of ways. They may
utilize distinct sounds, form words in different ways, and combine words to form
sentences in various ways, just to name a few.
C. Human language can arrange words into an infinite number of ideas, sometimes
referred to as discrete infinity. Animals only have a limited number of combinations
they can use to communicate. Animals, or non-humans, do not have a true language
like humans, according to researchers. Their only means of communication is by
sounds and gestures.

TASK 3:

Language is an essential component of human interaction. Humans are the only species
that have mastered intellectual verbal communication, despite the fact that all species
have ways of communicating. Language allows us to communicate our thoughts,
feelings, and ideas with others. It has the ability to both develop and destroy societies.

TASK 4:

What have I learned in lesson 1

What have I learned in lesson 1? That an informal discussion is typically distinguished

by the alternation of one speaker and another. In several other types of language, one
person speaks in a continuous monologue. Speeches and lectures are obvious examples.
These monologues, on the other hand, are often accompanied by intricate social rules
and have clearly defined beginnings and finishes, supporting the sense that frequent
turn taking is the more 'natural' case. Which is about the “Universal Language”.

What is language? Language is a system of communication that is essentially verbal,

symbolic, dually patterned, and arbitrary, and is utilized by humans with shared
cultural expectations. Language is also a means of communicating thoughts, knowledge,
and feelings to others through using the body. I had learned that not only languages we
do not speak or understand may sound like meaningless babble to us, but all the human
languages that have ever been studied by linguists are amazingly similar. They all share
several characteristics, which linguists call language universals. These language
universals can be considered properties of the Universal Grammar that Chomsky
proposed. Here is a list of some of the major ones. I have learned that all languages have
a basic word order of elements, like subject, verb, and object, with variations. Of course,
for me language is like a pizza that has the same physique and everything but still called
pizza. I have understood that not only the underlying structure of all languages is
characterized by the feature duality of patterning, which permits any speaker to utter
any message they need or wish to convey, and any speaker of the same language to
understand the message. With the help of grammar, people can communicate a variety
of thoughts.

Without a question, language is an important part of the culture etc. that each of us
carries. The culture then filters everything we know, whether through perception, logic,
or emotion. As a result, there is a cultural control of language over other Ways of
Knowing. However, we observed that language can be influenced by observation,
reason, and emotion, implying that there is no unilateral control.

TASK 5:

Being influenced by people using the according language differently. I would want that
because you will use that language differently, yet it is so creative that you would
influence others as well.

TASK 6:

For me, it would be the Portuguese language because it looks easy and fun to use, unlike
the Mandarin and Turkish, it has some stuff that its hard to pronounce and read because
it has a unique structure of letters for me. The Portuguese has the simpler language for
me because it is related to the Spanish language, they are alike. Spanish is the closest to
Portuguese. Both languages are descended from Vulgar Latin.
