Comparing and ordering allow us to describe the relationship between groups
of objects or things around us.

I. PRELIMINARIES
A. Review: Writing Numbers in Expanded Forrm
B. Focus: Comparing Whole Numbers

II. LESSON DEVELOPMENT
A. Presentation of Concept:
The students will know the rules in comparing whole numbers.
The students will be able to compare whole numbers using relational symbols
such as < (less than), > (greater than), and = (equal to).

 Boardwork: Number Analysis


 Emphasizing the importance of comparing digits in each place value from left
to right.
 Discuss with the students the steps taken to determine the correct
comparison.

B. BROADENING OF CONCEPT
1. Group Activity
Each group will be given series of questions on comparing whole numbers.
They will write the appropriate answer if it is > , < , or =.
2. Guided Practice
a. Distribute index cards/sticky notes to each student.
b. Write down three-digit numbers on the board, and have students write the
correct symbol (<,>, or =) between the numbers on their cards.
