TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION PROJECT GRANT PROPOSAL

Name of Applicant: Brittany Troutman

District/School: Hall/ Martin Technology Academy

Date: 4/2/2023

Total Cost of Project: $2,216.94

Title of Project: Lights, iPads, Green screen, ANNNNNDDDD Action!

To what organization will you submit this grant application in the future?: GaETC

I. Why is this project important (In 2-3 paragraphs, describe the need for the project and its
relevance to the shared vision for instructional technology)?

At Martin Technology Academy, we have over 600 students and are fortunate to have many
technology opportunities for our students like 1:1 Chromebooks, Green screen room, our
WMAR room (school announcements), STEM lab, podcast rooms, and iPad carts. The
downfall to having all these awesome devices are the availability. This issue sometimes can
affect our project timeline and hinder if we are able to even use it at all. While all grades
have access to use the green screen room, students in grades 2-5 usually book and trump
lower grades when a scheduling conflict occurs. While this has never been an issue in the
past, this year the green screen room is being used for other things in different grade levels.

To solve this issue, I am asking for you to sponsor my classroom’s mini green screen area.
This area is designated for my students to work, create, and film their projects. The mini
green screen area is not for one specific subject or idea, but where students can create skits,
news, presentations, and just being kids and explore. Having a green screen area allows
students to be creative while keeping them engaged. Creating a mini green screen area in
my classroom will help my students collaborate and learn responsibility while working in a
group setting. The teacher will be in charge of getting and putting the mini green screen up,
but students will still share and gain the responsibility of making sure the materials are taken
care of and put away.

When students are in the mini green screen area, I imagine seeing collaboration, engagement,
exploring, learning, laughing, and investigating going on. These verbs mean students are
gaining experience and knowledge that a teacher nor a computer can provide. Students that
are engaged and involved in their learning are also likely to retain what they are learning. I
believe that every classroom should have a mini green screen area, but I know that funding
one can become pricey.

II. What would you like to accomplish (In 1-2 paragraphs, describe the overall project goals
and then list the instructional objectives/project outcomes.)?

With this project, I want to give my students the ability and freedom of becoming creators,
designers, writers, and illustrators using technology. I also want to create a space for
students to become better speakers when solo and among peers. I want to provide a space
where my students can express themselves and their ideas without others interfering. When
students are taught how to work technology the ideas and creation become endless. My goal
is to introduce/teach content to my students and then release them in groups or independently
to create projects that express their thoughts on a subject or to teach others what they know
and like/dislike about a topic.

III. In what ways is this project an example of exemplary technology integration (In 2-3
paragraphs discuss your project regarding one or more of the following: LoTi, SAMR,
TPACK, TIM, etc.)?

As we look at exemplary technology integration, lets look at the ISTE standards and how my
students will be show exemplary. ISTE standard 1.6 Creative Communicator talks about
students creating original work, publish it, and communicate complex. Having a mini green
screen are will allow my students the ability to express themselves creatively using tools,
devices, platforms, and formats of their choice. While the mini green screen will not actually
help students collaborate globally, but the iPads will. Using the iPads to zoom with people in
the community, other schools, and in other area will allow my students to learn other
people’s perspectives, knowledge, and gain ideas from them. While using the iPad and their
Chrombooks, students are using the knowledge about what a good digital citizen is by
making right choices, saying things that are positive and appropriate to others, and bouncing
from program/app to another. My students are also gaining and showing exemplary work by
developing leadership skills, gaining problem-solving skills, and collaborating with all peers.

As we look at the LoTi Framework, students would score a LoTi 4, 5, and 6 on the
framework because when using the mini green screen area, students are creating authentic
and self-directed problem-based learning with their content/curriculum. My students are in
five and six years old, they do not have a lot of background knowledge or schema on topics,
so I have to teach and introduce many topics, so while I am teaching them everything, I am
also teaching them how to research independently and when kindergarten students can
research independently and talk about what they see, I believe that is self-directed learning.
Before and while students are working in the mini green screen area, they are collaborating
with peers, students from another school, or maybe a professional in the area of research.

The last technology exemplar I used is the TPACK, this framework is broken down into three
parts: technology, content, and pedagogy (Powerschool, 2022). Powerschool (2022),
continued that TPACK is to incorporate technology to teach concepts in a way that enhances
students learning. For example, we just finished our American symbols unit. In this unit,

students used their Chromebook to research about their favorite symbol and create a
presentation through Canva, our green screen room, or their Google Drive. By doing this,
students are engaged on their devices, learning the curriculum/content, and being creative to
show what they know and have learned. Students are retaining and gaining the background
knowledge and schema for future grade level content.

IV. How will you complete the work? (Describe how the project will be completed.)
In my classroom, I have an area that is strictly for my students to create whether it is blocks,
shapes, crayons, markers, pencils, pens, paper and scrap paper, and our classroom iPad to
capture their creation. This area we call the “no judging” zone because everyone has an
opinion and we have to respect it even if we do not like it. In this corner, I have an empty
wall where I would put the screen and a table with containers that have drawers to keep the
iPads and materials needed for their presentation/recording.

When students are ready to record their project, they will each have a job to begin setting
everything up (materials) for recording. Students will use the Do Ink to create the
background while other students are placing and prepping the Lego figures in place.
Students will also do a couple of trail runs to ensure that their recording is the way they
envisioned and ready for submission to me. Students will save the project and put it in their
Google Drive to share with me. I will have my email on the table for them to look at if they
need help spelling my name.

A. Describe how the instructional objectives/project outcomes will be met (In 2-3
paragraphs, describe what students will do to demonstrate mastery of the
objectives/outcomes.).

When students are using and creating projects they are meeting the instructional objectives
for this project. The objective for this project is to give every student an equal opportunity
to use and create projects using the mini green screen and to express their creativity and
knowledge. Students will learn and research new content/unit and collaborate with peers to
determine how they want to present their findings and understanding. Students will also
create a presentation in small group without teacher’s continuous assistance.

For the ISTE standards objectives students are meeting the standards and objectives that
they can be creative, innovated, good digital citizen when collaborating with others and
while using technology. Students will expand their on their learning to not just stating facts,
but creating stories, tutorials, and explanations of a topic. Students will also become global
with collaborating with other students from schools, people in the community, and
stakeholders.

B. Describe the time involved (Describe the project length including amount of time each
day/week; include a timeline for planning and implementation).

As stated earlier, my class is filled with five and six-year-old students. Due to this, there
will be modeling, modeling, and more modeling from myself and our classroom
paraprofessional. Students will have to be gradually released when working in the mini
green screen area. Every day, students and teacher will work, talk, and discuss the rules,
steps, and procedures when in the mini green screen area. Our class will talk about how to
collaborate, share, and speak kind to others even when they do not. We will talk about how
to take care of the materials, where they go, who’s job is it to make sure the area looks better
then when you came. To ensure that all students understand and fully comprehend the
process and procedures, it will probably take a month before students will work in the green
screen area independently without a teacher. Below you will see the planning and
implementation.

Week 1- Teacher will present a presentation of a student using a green screen. This
presentation explains the green screen area and process to students and how they use it.
Students will also be introduced to the materials and rules when in the area. The teacher
will show the students where the materials will go and introduce the job chart that they have
when working on a project/recording.

Week 2- Teacher will continue going over the rules and procedures for the green screen
area. Students will be quizzed throughout to see if students are understanding and retaining
the information. This week the teacher will also go over and explore the Do Ink app with
the kids and then by the end of the week, students will collaborate and explore the app
together while the teacher assists.

Week 3- Teacher will continue going over the rules and procedures for the green screen
area. Students will be quizzed throughout to see if students are understanding and retaining
the information. This week the teacher will also go over and explore the Chromavid app
with the kids and then by the end of the week, students will collaborate and explore the app
together while the teacher assists.

Week 4- This week, our media specialist will be working in our room to work with each
individual table to work, show, and test to see they are ready to work in our green screen
area independently. If they are not they will have another week of training, but if they pass,
then the next week they can begin creating their project.

C. Describe the people involved (To show impact, describe the grade level/subject & # of
students, teachers and/or staff, other stakeholders).

When getting this project started, I am going to need our school’s media specialist, the IT
guys, and instructional technology people in my room to help set up all the devices with the
correct apps and programs that we may use. The IT person will also put apps on the iPad

that the county has purchased for everyone to use. The media specialist will be there to
assist me in setting the area up and providing tricks and tips on how I can run this area
smoothly with 4-6 students working in one area at a time. Then the media specialist,
instructional coach, administration, and any other stakeholder that would like to attend when
the project introduced to my 18 kindergarten students on how and when we can use the mini
green screen area.

To ensure that I feel comfortable, I am asking the media specialist to come in my classroom
to help when students are beginning to work on their projects. This will allow me to not
lose any instruction time an I can keep teaching, assisting those groups that need a little
more assistance on their research.

D. Describe any professional development that you or others will complete prior to
implementing the grant. (This is optional, but will help reviewers know that you are well
prepared to carry out the grant implementation.)

At this time, there is no professional development needed for this project because we
received training when the green screen room came to our school.

E. Describe the materials needed for the project (Provide links to relevant websites; include
a written description of how the technology/ies will benefit students).

friendly and easy to use. Do Ink app allows students to use animations and drawings, as well as,
creating backgrounds for videos. The Chromavid is another easy, kids-friendly app that students follow
the steps and then create their project.

V. How will you assess accomplishments and objectives/project outcomes (In 2-3
paragraphs, describe the timeline for assessing, the program evaluation procedure, and how
success of the grant project will be determined.)?

With this project, there is not a timeline for assesses because this project is a continuously
being used and I am assessing student work and knowledge.

To show that this grant is successful, is by seeing all the projects students have completed in
the mini green screen area. We will also watch to make sure that students are able to
function independently when using the apps, iPads, and materials when recording their
projects.

VI. How will the students be impacted by the project (In 1-2 paragraphs, describe how the
impact on students will be assessed and reported to students, parents, teachers, and others.)?

Once a unit or topic has been taught, learned, or researched. Students will begin
brainstorming how they want to show mastery through a choice board. With the mini green screen
area in my classroom, students have the ability to create a skit, presentation, news report, or a
tutorial. As students begin the process of creating their project, the teacher will send a message
home to parents letting them know their child is working on a project and if they could send in
certain items/props in to help them with their presentation. Depending on the items needed, the
teacher could also reach out to businesses and community to donate items to help with their projects.
As students begin completing their projects and the teacher has checked it, I would love to do a
showcase where parents can come in and watch their child’s project. I will also have the ability to
share it with their parents through email or their student’s Google Drive. When the community has
been involved I would also send an invitation to them as well to show student work.

Students will be assessed not only on their knowledge of the content grade level
standards, but the teacher will also assess students using ISTE standards. ISTE standards were
designed to provide guidelines to help individuals create and utilize the most effective technology
learning environment as possible. (Lcom Team, 2022) Students will be assessed on how well they
are collaborating with peers using technology, being a good digital citizen, and using different digital
tools to create artifacts. As students begin using different technology tools in my classroom, my
goal is that they take what they learn beyond the classroom.
