PERFORMANCE TASK
(Let’s Go Fly a Kite)
Introduction:
Kids are running through fields and flying kites in the air. Think of having sunburned skin,
unruly hair, and a tanned face. They appear content and healthy.
If this scenario from childhood seems familiar to you, you are a member of a generation whose
formative years were characterized by afternoons spent flying kites. Unfortunately, many of us don't
belong to that generation, and it's easy to understand why. We are moving towards a time when
youngsters frequent shopping centers to hunt for entertainment devices daily and when buildings and
overhead electricity wires unexpectedly obstruct our area.
Objective:
The students will be able to use their knowledge and skills to construct and fly a kite.
Materials:
• Plastic
• Two 1/4 inch round wooden dowels (one 36 inches, one 30 inches)
• Scissors
• String/nylon/yarn/thread
• Masking tape or packing tape
• Ruler or yardstick
