Electrical Engineering Semester 1

Applied Calculus and Analytical Geometry (Theory)

Course Code: GSC-110

Credit Hours: 3

Pre- requisite: Intermediate & A-Levels Mathematics

Objectives: This is the first fundamental course of Mathematics for

undergraduate Electrical engineering students. Apart from basic
concept of various kinds of functions and their derivatives for
single variable, this course will introduce and strengthen the
knowledge regarding the partial derivatives, double and triple
integrals of several variables. Initially, a quick revision that deals
the notions of derivative and integration of one variable,
including (limits, continuity, differentiation, integration,
indeterminate forms, D. L. Hopital’s Rule). Multivariable
functions and their domain, range, limits and continuity. Partial
derivatives and their uses. Double and triple integrals. Vector
calculus (vector differentiation and integration).

Course Learning Outcomes

(CLOs): CLO 1: (C1): Express the ideas of rate of change and derivatives using
the concept of limits and continuity
CLO 2: (C2): Comprehend the learning of vector calculus and
analytical geometry in multiple dimensions.
CLO 3: (C3) Apply derivatives and integrals for solving different
problems arising in engineering sciences.
Course Outline: Limits and continuity:

• Introduction to limits.
• Rate of change and limits.
• One sided limits, infinite limits.
• Continuity, continuity at a point, Continuity on an
interval.
