2 PRELIMINARY CHECKS
Please read carefully this chapter where are listed some common wrong behaviors that may explain malfunctions in the
device. Next chapters will assume that all these preliminary checks are done.

IMPORTANT NOTICE for Authorized Service Centre: Always remind customers to Empty the tank (Pag. 12) before shipping
the unit for repair and to use, when possible, the original packaging.

Before taking any invasive actions, e.g. open the unit, it is recommended to ensure that the device was used in a proper way
(please refer to the CLINOX PRO ENERGY (Operating Manual). Furthermore, check that all plugs and external cables are not
damaged or worn-out.

2.1 ELECTROLYTE SOLUTIONS

To work properly, the CLINOX PRO ENERGY needs specific electrolyte solutions called BOMAR; besides being corrosive or
irritating for eyes or skin, these chemical substances are dangerous for the unit itself.
Very Do not use or mix products different from those advised by NITTY-GRITTY. Operate with unsuitable solutions
important could cause major damages to the device and in all cases any guarantee will be invalidated.
Under normal conditions, BOMAR always flows through acid-resistant components (tank, pump, hydraulic lines and torches),
but in the event of a leak the solution could spilled over vulnerable parts causing several types of malfunctions (many of the
issues in this SERVICE MANUAL are caused precisely because of solution leakage). For this reason, it is very important to
keep all the equipment as clean as possible and intervene in a timely manner if a leak is spotted; here are a couple of hints.

2.1.1 USE CAREFULLY TORCHES VERTICALLY

Fig. 5 – Using extraction torch vertically Fig. 6 – Exhaust outlet smoking Fig. 7 – Using manual torch vertically
One of the most common way to allow solution leaking on unprotected parts, is to use vertically the extraction torch without
paying attention (Fig. 5). The torch is equipped with a protective sleeve to prevent BOMAR from being vacuumed by suction
air flux and running down inside the torch, the hose and, at the end of the path, inside the unit; This kind of situation is
often accompanied by a burning smell and smoke blown out through the exhaust outlet (Fig. 6).

Therefore, in these working conditions is very important to empty frequently the protective sleeve or it’s highly
recommended to use the manual torch instead of the extraction one (Fig. 7).

2.1.2 STOW TOOLS PROPERLY

Do not lay torches and marking tools on top the unit during breaks or at the end of the job, because the electrolyte solution
may drip from soaked pads or brushes and seep inside the unit slots. To keep the device clean use always the provided
holders to stow tools properly (Fig. 8).
SERVICE MANUAL
CLINOX PRO ENERGY

Fig. 8 – To keep the device clean, always stow torches/markers in a proper way
8
2.2 WORKING SITES WITH WELDING STATIONS AND PICKLING STATIONS
Remember, do not weld and clean/polish/mark simultaneously on the same work piece. Disconnect the device ground wire
during any welding operation and after the work process or during the pauses (Fig. 9).

Warning If the operator turns on the welding device while both ground cables are connected to the work surface, the
electrical components of the NITTY-GRITTY device can be damaged, even when the welding torch does not
touch the piece. In this case, the internal components of the device could be hit by a high voltage of 100 V.

Fig. 9 – Proper procedures in working sites with welding stations and pickling stations

2.3 ELECTRIC POWER SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Make sure that all electric cables, sockets and plugs serving the device are in a good shape. The mains voltage and frequency
must match the unit specifications and an adequate earthing system must be installed. Verify the integrity of the ground wire
and the status of the protective devices against overcurrent in case of overloads or short-circuits.

2.4 THERMAL PROTECTION AND PROPER VENTILATION

The CLINOX PRO ENERGY is protected
by a special device which activates when
the heat inside the unit reaches too high
values; in this condition the unit goes in
safe mode and stops working to cool
down. When the internal temperature
returns to acceptable values, the unit
automatically starts again and operates
normally.

Fig. 10 – Clearance around the unit

For this reason, use the device in a well-ventilated work area and to avoid
overheating leave an adequate distance between the unit and any surrounding
objects (Fig. 10). Especially, do not obstruct the exhaust outlet and the cooling fan
grid placed in the rear panel (Fig. 11). Furthermore, do not expose the unit to direct
sunlight. Fig. 11 – Rear panel air intakes

2.4.1 OTHER INTEGRATED PROTECTION SYSTEMS

The thermal protection is not the only safety function that could automatically switch off the unit, but consider at least other
two similar situation:
1. Protection against short circuits: the inverter cuts off the power output when the device detects an excessive amount
of current flowing between inserts/pads/brushes and the workpiece (e.g. due a worn pad or an overflow of electrolyte
solution). Use a lower current level or reduce the fluid flow to resume the unit functionality.
2. Idle timeout: if the unit remains switched on without pickling for about 10-15 seconds, a timeout is triggered, and the
device is immediately shut down. Always turn off the unit during downtime periods.

Keep always in consideration the action of these three protection systems before starts a more detailed troubleshooting.

2.5 UNIT CABLES AND EXTRACTION TORCH HOSE HANDLING

Fig. 12 – Power cord Fig. 13 – Ground cable Fig. 14 – Manual torch power cable

The CLINOX PRO ENERGY is provided with three cables: power cord (Fig. 12),
ground cable (Fig. 13) and manual torch power cable (Fig. 14). Please ensure that
all these cables are free from defects, deformations, crushing, stresses and any
other signs of wear.

Moreover, handle with care the flexible hose (Fig. 15) that not only serves as
suction duct, but also encloses electrical and hydraulic lines to the Clinox PRO
extraction torch. So, avoid to pull the hose too far out and do not pinch or bend it
too sharply.

2.5.1 MANDATORY USE OF GROUND CABLE

Very Before turning on the device and starting to work, be sure to clamp the ground cable on the stainless
important steel piece that has to be cleaned/polished/marked. If this crucial procedure is not performed, the CLINOX
PRO ENERGY will not work at all.

10
2.6 FRONT PANEL SOCKETS AND KNOBS
Ground and manual torch power cable
must be fully plugged into the proper
socket located on the front panel of the
device (Fig. 16).

In certain situations some issue may

appear to be related to a control board
malfunction, when in fact it could be
caused by a misalignment of the control
knobs (Fig. 17), especially if the
operator used too much strength to
rotate them.
If such a scenario is suspected, please
check the knobs’ steps match with
icons drawn on the panel (Fig. 18).

2.7 INSERTS, PADS AND BRUSHES

If unexpected performances are experienced during pickling operations, it may be an indication of inserts/pads/brushes
wearing. It's strongly recommended to check the status of these components and replace them if necessary; use only original
spare parts, NITTY-GRITTY is not liable for the consequences if other products are used.

3 OPEN THE UNIT AND DISASSEMBLING ITS PARTS
If there is no way to identify a simple cause for a malfunction in the device (see Preliminary Checks Pag. 8), consider proceeding
with an in-depth analysis in order to find a failure in the internal hardware and subsequently replace a broken component wherever
possible. Before going into detail with all the different scenarios, please read carefully this chapter where procedures to
disassemble unit main components are described; this manual will often refer to such procedures.

Warning ELECTRIC SHOCK

All electric shocks are potentially lethal.
The maintenance of the electrical components must be performed only after disconnecting the unit; wait at least
one minute for capacitors discharge. Any maintenance of electrical components must be performed only by
qualified personnel. Always replace any damaged parts of the unit with original spare parts.

Warning CORROSIVE SUBSTANCES

To operate, the CLINOX PRO ENERGY needs specific electrolyte solutions called
BOMAR; these products are corrosive or irritating for eyes or skin. During maintenance
tasks, adequate protective equipment must be used: gloves, goggles and safety clothes.
In case of accidental contact with eyes or skin or ingestion, please refer to products safety data sheet; it is possible
to request a copy of that documentation to NITTY-GRITTY (Phone: +39 059 785210 · E-mail: [email protected])

3.1 EMPTY THE TANK

The procedure to opening the device provides to lay it on the sides, so it is recommended to fully empty the tank to avoid
accidental BOMAR spillage.

Fig. 19 – Prepare the device Fig. 20 – Unscrew the cap Fig. 21 – Tilt and empty
1. put the device near the edge of a workbench (Fig. 19)
2. remove the tank cap (Fig. 20)
3. gently tilt the device and pour the electrolyte solution into a safe container (Fig. 21)

Hint To operate under conditions of maximum safety, after the repair or replacement of hydraulic components,
verify if system is still leakproof using demineralized water rather than BOMAR.
Note: It is clear that in this configuration the device can't pickle in a proper way, so test only the seal of
hydraulic lines.

3.2 OPEN THE UNIT

After disconnecting the unit from its power source and Empty the tank (Pag. 12),
use a cross-head screwdriver (Fig. 22) to remove the two side panels of the unit,

4 ELECTRICAL ISSUE: NO PICKLING
In this chapter "no pickling" stands for a scenario in which a complete lack of current is experienced on one or both torches.
Please read carefully Preliminary Checks (Pag. 8) before proceeding further with troubleshooting.
To find which actions are more efficient to solve a particular problem, each next sub-chapter begins with a description of some
quick checks to perform on the device (written in bold), such as verify LEDs status or torches functionality; use these tips to rapidly
browse the manual and identify the procedure that best fits a specific issue.

4.1 CHANGE MAIN SWITCH

Check the main switch LED (see Status LEDs Pag. 7); if its green light remains turned off when the switch is on "I" position,
then this component almost certainly suffered an electrical or mechanical problem. After disconnecting the device from its
power source, Open the unit (Pag. 12).
1. with the help of a slot-head screwdriver (Fig. 53) gently pull out the switch from
its housing (Fig. 54, Fig. 55)
2. before fully remove the switch, use a multimeter in continuity test mode, insert
the probes into connections (Fig. 56) and ensure the device’s proper functioning
(as reference see Circuit diagram, Pag. 47)
3. if a malfunction is found, a switch replacement is necessary; unplug all faston
connectors (Fig. 57) and remove the broken component (Fig. 58)

4.2 CHECK UPPER CONNECTOR (INVERTER WIRES)
If the main switch LED works
properly, but none of the front LEDs
lights up (see Status LEDs Pag. 7), it
is necessary to check some internal
components. Disconnect the device
from its power source and Open the unit
(Pag. 12). Reconnect momentarily the
electrical feeding to verify if the inverter
LED lights up.
If the inverter LED is switched off,
check if the upper green connector (Fig.
59) is fully plugged in its socket, as well
the wiring screws' tightening (in
particular blue and yellow inverter feed
wires, Fig. 60). If everything looks as
Fig. 59 – Upper connector location Fig. 60 – Inverter feed wires expected, Check inverter board fuse
(Pag. 18) because it could be blown.

If, instead, the inverter LED is switched on, it is necessary to Change control board (Pag. 42). If even this procedure fails,
Change inverter (Pag. 44).

4.2.1 CHECK INVERTER BOARD FUSE

The CLINOX PRO ENERGY is provided with three safety fuses, all placed next to the upper connector (Fig. 61, as
reference see Circuit diagram, Pag. 47): pump fuse (the upper one), suction motor fuse (in the middle) and inverter board
fuse (on bottom). Unscrew the bottom cap, extract the inverter board fuse (Fig. 62) and check its filament integrity (Fig.
63); if the wire is molten, a fuse replacement is necessary.

4.3 SUCTION LANCE ISSUE
If main switch LED and front LEDs (see Status LEDs Pag. 7) are normally switched on, it is recommended to check
torches and their behavior in order to exclude minor issues before proceeding to change primary components (e.g. inverter).
If the manual torch works as expected but the extraction one does not pickle (after pressing the start button on the torch)
and in addition to this the suction motor does not start, check if tank LED is switched on (see Status LEDs Pag. 7). This
light indicates that the amount of BOMAR in the tank is running low and needs to be replenished; in this situation the device
goes into safe mode showing the same behavior described before, so Check solution level and appearance (Pag. 19).
4.3.1 CHECK SOLUTION LEVEL AND APPEARANCE
The tank is made of translucent plastic, so it is very easy to check the remaining
amount of BOMAR, but for a more precise evaluation it is possible to remove the
tank cap (Fig. 64) and look inside; the solution must be free of impurities.

Very Do not use or mix products different from those advised by

important NITTY-GRITTY. Do not refill the tank with used solutions
recovered from previous pickling/marking operations
(impurities dissolved in the BOMAR may cause severe
malfunctions in the equipment).
Operate with unsuitable solutions could cause major
damages to the device and in all cases any guarantee will be
invalidated.

Refill the tank if needed. If, instead, the electrolyte solution level and appearance
are nominal, it is necessary to Change suction lance (Pag. 19).
Fig. 64 – Unscrew the cap

4.3.2 CHANGE SUCTION LANCE

The CLINOX PRO ENERGY collects electrolyte solutions from the tank through a suction lance. This component could run
into two types of problems, electrical (the level sensor) or hydraulic (filter and draught); in both cases it is necessary to
change the whole suction lance. Disconnect the device from its power source and Open the unit (Pag. 12).
1. the suction lance is installed on the top of the tank (Fig. 66)
2. use a small slot-head screwdriver to disconnect level sensor wiring located
on lower green connector (Fig. 67, Fig. 68); as reference see Circuit diagram
(Pag. 47)
3. use a 17 mm wrench to untighten the plastic bolt at the end of the hydraulic
line between the pump and the tank (Fig. 69), then disconnect the plastic tube
(Fig. 70); as reference see Hydraulic diagram (Pag. 48)
4. retrieve carefully wiring and tube from internal parts of the unit (Fig. 71);
remember cables routing in order to install new suction lance in the same way

4.4 EXTRACTION TORCH MICROSWITCH RELATED ISSUE
If main switch LED and front LEDs (see Status LEDs Pag. 7) are normally switched on, it is recommended to check
torches and their behavior in order to exclude minor issues before proceeding to change primary components (e.g. inverter).
If the manual torch works as expected but the extraction one does not pickle (after pressing the start button on the torch)
and in addition to this the suction motor does not start even if tank LED is switched off (see Status LEDs Pag. 7), the
malfunction (electrical or mechanical) may be related to the two-buttons (START/STOP) installed on the Clinox PRO extraction
torch.
Follow the procedures described in the next sub-chapters to identity and fix the issue.

4.4.1 REPLACE EXTRACTION TORCH MICROSWITCH BOARD

To check the microswitch board status,
Open Clinox PRO extraction torch
(Pag. 16) and remove it from its housing
(Fig. 74, Fig. 75).
The most common cause of a
microswitch board failure is due to
BOMAR seeping through the buttons.
Very Always keep clean the
important Clinox PRO extraction
torch to avoid damaging
the microswitch board
(see Electrolyte solutions
Pag. 8).
The buttons rubber membrane must be
intact (Fig. 76) and its edge must free
Fig. 74 – Board in its housing Fig. 75 – Microswitch board removed
from defects to firmly adhere inside the
torch slot.

Fig. 76 – Damaged button membrane Fig. 77 – Microswitch board connector Fig. 78 – Microswitches
Since the buttons rubber is hard-joined with torch microswitch cable, it is not
possible to remove only the damaged membrane, but the whole cable needs
to be replaced; see Replace extraction torch start/stop cabling (Pag. 22).
If the button rubber is in a good shape, inspect carefully both sides of the
microswitch board to spot signs of wear or corrosion. A multimeter may be used
for checking all electrical connections (Fig. 77) and it is also recommended to
press microswitches buttons (Fig. 78) to ensure there is no mechanical issue in
the component.
Once an issue has been identified in the microswitch board, gently disconnect
the cable (Fig. 79) and remove the broken component.

4.4.2 CHECK LOWER CONNECTOR (EXTRACTION TORCH MICROSWITCH START/STOP CABLING)
Disconnect the device from its power
source and Open the unit (Pag. 12).

Check if the lower green connector (Fig.

80) is fully plugged in its socket, as well
the wiring screws' tightening (in
particular yellow, green and brown
extraction torch microswitch board
control wires, Fig. 81).

If no anomalies are found, consider to

Replace extraction torch start/stop
cabling (Pag. 22).

4.4.3 REPLACE EXTRACTION TORCH START/STOP CABLING

Disconnect the device from its power source, Open the unit (Pag. 12) and Open Clinox PRO extraction torch (Pag.16).

Fig. 82 – Microswitch cable test Fig. 83 – Probe on microswitch board Fig. 84 – Probe lower connector

The easiest way to verify the extraction torch start/stop cabling is undamaged, is to use a multimeter and check its electrical
continuity (Fig. 82, as reference see Circuit diagram, Pag. 47); put one probe onto each microswitch board connector pin
(Fig. 83) while with the other one touch the corresponding color wire screw in the lower connector (Fig. 84). If a malfunction
is found, a cable replacement is necessary and proceed as described below.

If procedure described in this sub-chapter came back inconclusive, it is necessary to Change control board (Pag. 42). If
even this procedure fails, Change inverter (Pag. 44).

4.4.4 USE FAKE TORCH TESTER (OPTIONAL)

A useful tool to quickly verify if the microswitch board is experiencing an issue, is a fake torch tester (Fig. 100); its works
is very simple.
Disconnect the device from its power
source and Open the unit (Pag. 12) and
use a slot-head screwdriver (Fig. 101) to
loosen retaining screws of the lower
connector (Fig. 102).
Completely remove the connector (Fig.
103) and install the fake torch into the
empty slot (Fig. 104).

Fig. 102 – Loosen retaining screws Fig. 103 – Remove lower connector Fig. 104 – Install and use the fake torch

Reconnect momentarily the unit to the electrical feeding and use the fake torch (Fig. 104) to start the suction motor. If
nothing happens, please contact NITTY-GRITTY; if, instead, the device responds properly to commands, the problem must
reside or in the microswitch board or in the start/stop cabling, so try to Replace extraction torch microswitch board (Pag.
21) or Replace extraction torch start/stop cabling (Pag. 22).

4.5 CHECK EXTRACTION TORCH POWER CABLE
If main switch LED and front LEDs (see Status LEDs Pag. 7) are normally switched on, it is recommended to check
torches and their behavior in order to exclude minor issues before proceeding to change primary components (e.g. inverter).
If the manual torch works as expected but the extraction one does not pickle (after pressing the start button on the torch)
and nonetheless the suction motor starts, check the integrity of the Clinox PRO extraction torch power cable; begin
disconnecting the device from its power source and Open the unit (Pag. 12).

Fig. 105 – Extraction torch cable test Fig. 106 – Probe on insert Fig. 107 – Probe on torch socket

The easiest way to verify the torch cable is undamaged, is to use a multimeter and check its electrical continuity (Fig. 105, as
reference see Circuit diagram, Pag. 47); put one probe onto Clinox PRO extraction torch insert (Fig. 106), introduce the other
one behind the front panel and touch torch socket metal bolt (Fig. 107).
If a malfunction is found, an extraction torch power cable replacement is necessary and proceed as described in the next sub-
chapter.

4.5.1 REPLACE EXTRACTION TORCH POWER CABLE

Since the power cable runs inside the Clinox PRO extraction torch hose, the faulty cord will be used as "cable puller" for
the new one to simplify the replacing procedure. First Open Clinox PRO extraction torch (Pag.16), then disconnect the
cable following the next steps:
1. remove the extraction torch main body from its housing (Fig. 109)
2. use a 5 mm hex-key tool to loosen two fastening set screws near the power
cable terminal (Fig. 110)
3. unplug the power cable (Fig. 111)
4. Remove suction motor (Pag. 15)
5. remove suction motor manifold and unscrew the PG11 PVDF fitting cap;
extract the green gasket seal (Fig. 112)
6. use two 7 mm wrenches to remove the nut in the internal side of the torch
socket (Fig. 113) and release the yellow eyelet of power cable (Fig. 114)
7. cut cable end (Fig. 115) and remove the eyelet
8. pull the cable out from PG11 PVDF fitting and motor manifold (Fig. 116)
9. use tape to bond new cable (torch terminal) and the old one (cut-eyelet

4.6 MANUAL TORCH ISSUE
If main switch LED and front LEDs are normally switched on (see Status LEDs Pag. 7), and the manual torch does not
pickle, first check the behavior of the extraction one to exclude some possible scenarios.

4.6.1 EXTRACTION TORCH PICKLES: CHECK MANUAL TORCH WIRING

The CLINOX PRO ENERGY uses the same circuit to feed both manual and extraction torch (as reference see Circuit
diagram, Pag. 47), so if the extraction one works as expected, the problem must be limited to the manual torch hardware.
Of course a very simple action to take is to replace the torch with another one (if available) and check if the problem
persists; if so, Open the unit (Pag. 12).

The manual torch is powered through a socket placed in the front panel (Fig. 16).
This component is internally provided with a bolt to which feeding cables are
fastened (Fig. 123); check if the nut is properly tightened.

If no anomalies are found, it is necessary to Change control board (Pag. 42).

If even this procedure fails, please contact NITTY-GRITTY.

Fig. 123 – Torch socket internal bolt

4.6.2 EXTRACTION TORCH DOES NOT PICKLE

If the extraction torch does not pickle after pressing the start button on the torch (no matters if the suction motor starts
or not), disconnect the device from its power source and Open the unit (Pag. 12). Reconnect momentarily the electrical
feeding to verify if the inverter LED switch on (see Status LEDs Pag. 7); if so, it is necessary to Change control board
(Pag. 42). If even this procedure fails, Change inverter (Pag. 44).
If instead the inverter LED remains switched off, Change inverter (Pag. 44) without take actions on the control board.

5 ELECTRICAL ISSUE: SUDDEN STOP

In this chapter "sudden stop" stands for a scenario in which the device works normally for a while, then unexpectedly stops.
Please read carefully Preliminary Checks (Pag. 8) before proceeding further with troubleshooting.
If everything is as expected, proceed with an in-depth analysis and follow the procedures described in the next sub-chapters to
identity and fix the issue.

5.1 CHECK LOWER CONNECTOR (COOLING FAN WIRES)

Although there are no evidences of overheating, there may still be a problem with the cooling fan (e.g. no or low spin ratio).
1. disconnect the device from its
power source then Open the unit
(Pag. 12)
2. check if the lower green connector
(Fig. 124) is fully plugged in its
socket, as well the side screws
tightening, in particular those
holding the black and red fan feed
wire on top (Fig. 125); as reference
see Circuit diagram (Pag. 47)

If no anomalies are found, try to

Change cooling fan (Pag. 28).

27
5.2 CHANGE COOLING FAN
1. disconnect the device from its power source then Open the unit (Pag. 12)
2. use a small slot-head screwdriver to disconnect cooling fan wiring located on
lower green connector (Fig. 127, Fig. 128, Fig. 129); as reference see Circuit
diagram (Pag. 47)
3. the cooling fan is placed in the rear panel of the unit (Fig. 130)
4. the fan is hold in place without screws, but it's simply fixed through four rubber
retainers, so gently pull it out from its housing with hands (Fig. 131)
5. Install new cooling fan (Pag. 29)

Fig. 135 – Pull retainers till first groove Fig. 136 – Trim at second groove Fig. 137 – Trim retainers’ other side

The cooling fan spare (Fig. 132) comes with four pre-installed rubber retainers that will serve to fix it into rear panel without
screws. Take a minute to closely observe these retainers and identify the side with conical end and two grooves (Fig. 133).
After that, proceed with fan installation following the next steps:
1. insert retainers conical end side into the four holes placed around the fan grid on unit rear panel (Fig. 134)
2. pull and stretch the conical end till the first groove engages with the rear panel sheet (Fig. 135)
3. trim the conical end surplus at second groove height (Fig. 136)
4. trim also surplus on the other side of retainers leaving two or three grooves (Fig. 137)
5. re-route wires inside the unit and secure them to the lower connector

If the problem still occurs after replacing the cooling fan, it is necessary to Change control board (Pag. 42). If even this
procedure fails, Change inverter (Pag. 44).

6 ELECTRICAL ISSUE: NO STOP OR AUTO START

In this chapter "no stop" stands for a scenario in which, using the extraction torch START/STOP buttons, the device starts
normally, but that it does not respond to pressing the stop button. Conversely, "auto start" means that the device stars
immediately after turning on the unit main switch, despite not taking any action on the extraction torch buttons. Both cases can be
handled in the same way. Please read carefully Preliminary Checks (Pag. 8) before proceeding further with troubleshooting.
These types of malfunctions are almost certainly driven by a Extraction torch microswitch related issue (Pag. 21), so follow the
same procedures described in that chapter.

Hint In "no stop" scenario, if the problem still occurs after Replace extraction torch microswitch board (Pag. 21), skip
the other 4.4.x sub-chapters and try to Change control board (Pag. 42). If even this procedure fails, Change

7 HYDRAULIC ISSUE: BOMAR LEAK
In this chapter "BOMAR leak" stands for a scenario in which a leak occurs somewhere causing the electrolyte solution flows out
from the unit. Leaks are very dangerous the hardware, so take prompt actions to identify and fix the issue.
Please read carefully Preliminary Checks (Pag. 8) before proceeding further with troubleshooting.

7.1 LEAK FROM EXHAUST OUTLET

The most likely point where the BOMAR could come out, is the exhaust outlet (Fig. 138). This happens because any possible
leak in the torch or along its hose is vacuumed by the suction motor and blown out through the outlet (Fig. 139). For these
reasons, it is recommended to firstly check the internal parts of the extraction torch, and the sealing of the solution feeding lines.

SUCTION

TORCH

Fig. 138 – Exhaust outlet Fig. 139 – Typical leak route Fig. 140 – Torch inspection

Disconnect the device from its power source, Open Clinox PRO extraction torch (Pag.16) and inspect carefully all components
(Fig. 140) considering that under normal conditions this area must be dry. If wet spots are found, identify the point of origin of
the leak and react in consequence. If, instead, no anomalies are found, proceed to examine the whole hose and Change
BOMAR feeding (Pag. 30) if needed.

7.1.1 CHANGE BOMAR FEEDING TUBE

Since the BOMAR feeding duct runs inside the extraction torch hose, the faulty tube will be used as "cable puller" for the
new one to simplify the replacing procedure.
To operate in safe and easy conditions, make accessible all device internal components before starting the replacement:
disconnect the device from its power source, Open the unit (Pag. 12), Remove suction motor (Pag. 15) and Open Clinox
PRO extraction torch (Pag. 16); then proceed following the next steps.

19. reassemble all device components and verify if the leak persists

Hint To operate under conditions of maximum safety, after the repair or replacement of hydraulic components,
verify if system is still leakproof using demineralized water rather than BOMAR.

7.2 LEAK FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE

The CLINOX PRO ENERGY hydraulic system is fairly simple: the electrolyte solution stored in the tank flows inside a suction
lance under the pump action, and then reaches the extraction torch through the feeding line inside the hose (as reference see
Hydraulic diagram, Pag. 48). Disconnect the device from its power source and Open the unit (Pag. 12), and, if needed, Open
Clinox PRO extraction torch (Pag. 16) as well: since all the internal components of the device should be dry, it well be easy to
spot any leakage the source of the problem and react consequently.
First tighten all hydraulic connectors nearby the spillage. If the leak continues or signs of breakage are visible on a part, it is
recommended to replace the whole concerned component as described in related paragraphs: Change suction lance (Pag.
19), Change pump (Pag. 34) and Change BOMAR feeding (Pag. 30).

If this manual does not provide for the experienced scenario, please contact NITTY-GRITTY.

8 HYDRAULIC ISSUE: NO BOMAR TO TORCH

In this chapter "no BOMAR to torch" stands for a scenario in which the electrolyte solution does not reach the torch, and
consequently pads/brushes remain dry; in this condition the pickling process doesn't happen.
Please read carefully Preliminary Checks (Pag. 8) before proceeding further with troubleshooting.
First disconnect the device from its power source and Open the unit (Pag. 12) and check if all hydraulic connectors are properly
tightened in place (as reference se Hydraulic diagram, Pag. 48). Reconnect momentarily the unit electrical feeding to verify if the
BOMAR pump begins to work after pressing the start button on the extraction torch switch: the suction motor is the noisiest
component of the device, but the typical sound of the pump working is audible if listening carefully. According the pump behavior,
SERVICE MANUAL

proceed as described below.

8.1 PUMP DOES NOT START
8.1.1 CHECK UPPER CONNECTOR (PUMP WIRES)
If the pump does not start, check if the
upper green connector (Fig. 153) is fully
plugged in its socket, as well the wiring
screws' tightening (in particular the two
orange pump feed wires, Fig. 154; as
reference see Circuit diagram, Pag. 47).
If everything looks as expected, Check
pump fuse (Pag. 33) because it could be
blown.

8.1.2 CHECK PUMP FUSE

The CLINOX PRO ENERGY is provided with three safety fuses, all placed next to the upper connector (Fig. 155, as
reference see Circuit diagram, Pag. 47): pump fuse (the upper one), suction motor fuse (in the middle) and inverter board
fuse (on bottom). Unscrew the bottom cap, extract the pump fuse (Fig. 156) and check its filament integrity (Fig. 157); if
the wire is molten, a fuse replacement is necessary.

8.1.3 CHANGE PUMP
The pump is easily recognizable by the two plastic tubes plugged in (Fig. 159).
Before proceeding with the disassembly, be sure the unit is disconnected from
power source, then follow the next steps.

1. use a 17 mm wrench to untighten the plastic bolt at the end of the hydraulic
line between the pump and the tank (Fig. 160), then disconnect the plastic
tube (Fig. 161); as reference see Hydraulic diagram (Pag. 48)
2. unscrew also the upper connector and remove the tube (Fig. 162); be careful
not to lose the two rings installed on the tube (Fig. 163)
3. use a 3 mm hex-key tool a 7 mm wrench to remove the four pump mounting
bolts (Fig. 164)
4. remove the pump (Fig. 165)
5. on the other side of pump backplate, identify the ground wiring bolt; use a 7
mm wrench to remove the nut (Fig. 166)
6. disconnect ground cables (Fig. 167). Please note the thinnest cable is from

8.2 PUMP STARTS
8.2.1 CHECK LOWER CONNECTOR (LEVEL SENSOR WIRES)
A basic check to perform if the pump
starts and the electrolyte solution does
not reach the extraction torch, is to verify
if the tank is empty. Normally this
condition is indicated by the lit of the tank
LED (see Status LEDs Pag. 7), and in
that case neither the pump, nor the
suction engine would start. So if the tank
is empty and the device starts anyway,
the issue must be related to the level
sensor of the suction lance; first is check
if the lower green connector (Fig. 172) is
fully plugged in its socket, as well the
level sensor wires screws' tightening (Fig.
173; as reference see Circuit diagram,
Fig. 172 – Lower connector location Fig. 173 – Level sensor wires Pag. 47). If everything looks as expected,
Change suction lance (Pag. 19).
8.2.2 TRAPPED AIR OR SUCTION LANCE PRIMING ISSUE
If the pump starts, the tank is NOT empty and there are no signs of leaks,
there is possibility that some air is trapped inside hydraulic lines. This usually
happens when the device is turned on for the very first time or after a long period
of inactivity; in most cases the issue solves itself leaving the device running for
few seconds.
If hydraulic lines seem fine, then the suction lance could be clogged, so gently
extract it from the tank and remove any obstructions from the priming duct and its
input filter. It is recommended to Change suction lance (Pag. 19) if signs of wear
SERVICE MANUAL

are evident.
CLINOX PRO ENERGY

If no anomalies are found, consider to Check extraction torch valve (Pag. 36).

Fig. 174 – Extract suction lance

35
8.2.3 CHECK EXTRACTION TORCH VALVE
The release of the electrolyte solution from the extraction torch is adjusted by a
sphere valve (spring loaded) that shuts the main body nozzle as soon as the
pump stops its action; this prevents accidental spillages of the BOMAR stored in
the hydraulic lines when the torch is not active.
Occasionally, mainly after a long period of inactivity, the sphere could get stuck
on the nozzle edges preventing the regular flux of the solution pushed by the
pump. To inspect and, if necessary, unstuck the valve, proceed as follows:
1. with the help of pliers, unscrew the tip holder (Fig. 176)
2. disassemble the extraction torch terminal (Fig. 177)
3. use a slot-head screwdriver to remove the valve cover from the top of main
body (Fig. 178)
4. use a thin tool, like a small screwdriver, to unstruck the sphere (Fig. 179)
5. it is recommended to check the wear status of all the three valve components:
the sphere, the spring and the cover; please note the truncated cone spring
smaller base must be directed towards the sphere (Fig. 180)

If even after these checking the electrolyte solution does not flow through the extraction torch, firstly try to Change pump
(Pag. 34) and if again the procedure comes back inconclusive, please contact directly NITTY-GRITTY without attempt to
change also control board or inverter.

9 HYDRAULIC ISSUE: ALWAYS MAX BOMAR TO TORCH

In this brief chapter "always max BOMAR to torch" stands for a scenario in which, after pressing the start button on the extraction
torch, the hydraulic pump always runs at maximum speed pushing to pads/brushes a lot of electrolyte solution, regardless the
device settings. This kind of malfunction is almost certainly caused by a problem with the control board, but before going that way
SERVICE MANUAL

is suggested to check the proper alignment of the frontal control knobs. Please refer to Front panel sockets and knobs (Pag. 11)
for further information.
CLINOX PRO ENERGY

If no anomalies are found, Open the unit (Pag. 12) and Change control board (Pag. 42). If even this procedure fails, please contact
NITTY-GRITTY.

36
10 SUCTION ISSUE: VERY NOISY UNIT
In this brief chapter "very noisy unit" stands for a scenario in which, during the use of the device, an unusual noise is heard from
internal parts of the unit.
Warning In most of cases this situation is caused an electrolyte solution leak that seriously corroded the suction motor or
cooling fan moving parts; proceed with caution during troubleshooting.
Before starting to examine the inner parts of the unit, please read carefully Preliminary
Checks (Pag. 8) and ensure that no foreign bodies or dirt residues are obstructing the
unit air intakes (e.g. cooling fan grid, exhaust outlet) (Fig. 181).
If everything looks as expected, disconnect the device from its power source and Open
the unit (Pag. 12); reconnect momentarily the electrical feeding and try to identify the odd
noise source. Since the only components of CLINOX PRO ENERGY with "potentially
exposed" moving parts are the suction motor and the cooling fan, keep the focus on
those pieces of hardware. If you notice something wrong, Remove suction motor (Pag.
15) and change it, or Change cooling fan (Pag. 28) according the found issue.

Please refer to CLINOX PRO ENERGY Spare Parts List for replacements

11 SUCTION ISSUE: NO OR LOW SUCTION CAPACITY

In this chapter "no or low suction capacity" stands for a scenario in which the device
is unable to aspirate pickling fumes in the proper way, or vacuum power is utterly missing.
Before proceeding with an in-depth analysis, please read carefully Preliminary Checks
(Pag. 8) and ensure that no foreign bodies or dirt residues are obstructing the unit
exhaust outlet (Fig. 182).
If no anomalies are found, press the start button on the extraction torch and listen if the
suction motor starts or not. Disconnect the device from its power source and Open the
unit (Pag. 12) and then proceed as described in next sub-chapters according the motor
behavior.

Fig. 182 – Exhaust outlet

11.1 SUCTION MOTOR DOES NOT START

11.1.1 CHECK UPPER CONNECTOR (SUCTION MOTOR WIRES)

If the suction motor does not start,
check if the upper green connector (Fig.
183) is fully plugged in its socket, as well
the wiring screws' tightening (in
particular the two gray suction motor
feed wires, Fig. 184; as reference see
Circuit diagram, Pag. 47). If everything
looks as expected, Check suction motor
fuse (Pag. 38) because it could be
blown.

37
11.1.2 CHECK SUCTION MOTOR FUSE
The CLINOX PRO ENERGY is provided with three safety fuses, all placed next to the upper connector (Fig. 185, as
reference see Circuit diagram, Pag. 47): pump fuse (the upper one), suction motor fuse (in the middle) and inverter board
fuse (on bottom). Unscrew the bottom cap, extract the suction motor fuse (Fig. 186) and check its filament integrity (Fig.
187); if the wire is molten, a fuse replacement is necessary.

Please refer to CLINOX PRO ENERGY Spare Parts List for replacements
Suction motor fuse (10 A) CLX002216

If procedure described in this sub-chapter came back inconclusive, it is necessary to Remove suction motor (Pag. 15) and
change it.

Please refer to CLINOX PRO ENERGY Spare Parts List for replacements
Suction motor (230 V) CLX002057

If the problem still occurs after replacing the suction motor, it is necessary to Change control board (Pag. 42). If even this
procedure fails, Change inverter (Pag. 44).

11.2 SUCTION MOTOR STARTS

If the suction motor starts normally but poor sucking power is experienced, it
means the vacuum flow is escaping from somewhere before arriving to the extraction
torch suction intake. Inspect carefully the two air hoses (Fig. 188), in particular if
connections to the suction motor are tightened.

If leaks, damages or crushing are found, proceed to Replace extraction torch hose
(Pag. 38), while if it is not possible to identify the source of the problem, please
contact NITTY-GRITTY.

Hint It is very unlikely that the exhaust hose may be damaged during its
lifecycle, however, if a replacement is required, refer to the next sub-
chapter to find instructions on how removing it. In any case contact
NITTY-GRITTY for further details and spare.

SERVICE MANUAL

11.2.1 REPLACE EXTRACTION TORCH HOSE

Very Many components of the device must be removed in order to replace the extraction torch hose, and for
CLINOX PRO ENERGY

important this reason the proper reassembly might be difficult. To restore the unit in the exact same conditions it was
before the replacement operation, it is strongly recommended to pay special attention to each step of the
following procedure and to take pictures of wire/tube routing as reference.

38
1. Remove suction motor (Pag. 15)
2. Remove the inverter (Pag. 44)
After that, disengage all the cables that run inside the extraction torch hose in this way:
3. on lower connector, loosen retaining screws of yellow, green and brown wires
(Fig. 190); as reference see Circuit diagram (Pag. 47)
4. remove wires and release the cable (Fig. 191)
5. use two 7 mm wrenches to remove the nut in the internal side of the torch
socket (Fig. 192) and release the yellow eyelet of power cable
6. on the pump, disconnect the upper tube unscrewing its connector (Fig. 193)
7. look carefully the tube end and the two rings installed in correspondence of a
bottleneck on the plastic duct (Fig. 194)
Very The rings have a defined mounting direction and position,
important so before disassembling the connector ensure to be able to
re-install them in the proper way on the new tube. A wrong
Fig. 189 – Tools needed reassembly compromises the seal of the hydraulic lines.

12.1.1 ROTARY SWITCHES ALIGNMENT AND CONTROL BOARD INSTALLATION
The control board is equipped with three
rotary switches (one for each knob).
Each switch supports up to 12 position,
but the CLINOX PRO ENERGY
operating modes need fewer options.
For this reason, on each switch is pre-
installed a stop washer to limit the
number of allowed positions: 6 for the
operating knob, 4 for the power knob
and 6 for the pump knob.
A brand-new control board is already
properly configured with stop washers
hold in place by fixing nuts (Fig. 218). As
seen in previous chapter, to install the
control board it is necessary to remove
