Ben’s Blog
My family and I usually go on holiday to places in the south of Europe where it’s warm and
sunny. We like to spend a couple of weeks sitting by the hotel swimming pool or sunbathing
on the local beaches. However, last summer my parents decided to stay in the UK for a
change and we spent two weeks travelling around Scotland, where the weather changes
every day and it’s usually too cold to swim in the sea.
We drove to Scotland and went camping in a large forest near Loch Ness, the huge lake in the north of Scotland
which is famous because they say that a monster lives in it. We enjoyed camping in the beautiful forest and
spent our days walking in the nearby mountains, going for boat trips on the lake and visiting the beautiful castles.
Everything was perfect until the last day of our holiday.
It was a warm, sunny morning and we were walking through the forest when suddenly I saw a long black snake on
the path in front of us. Unfortunately, my sister Ellie didn’t see it and stepped on its tail. The snake bit her leg and
then disappeared into the trees. Ellie screamed and immediately started crying. Luckily, we were near a road just
a few hundred metres from the campsite. My dad ran back to the campsite and came back five minutes later with
the car. Then he drove Ellie to the hospital in Inverness, the nearest town. When the doctors examined my sister
they said that she was very lucky. It was not a dangerous snake and Ellie was going to be fine.
However, I don’t think Ellie will want to go camping in Scotland next summer!
