End-of-term Test 3

Specific Competences Test: Speaking

Specific Competence 2: Presentation
1 Imagine you have received the text message below from an English-speaking friend. Send your friend a
voice message with your answers to the questions below.

Hi! I’m going to be in your year

after the summer holidays! Have
you enjoyed your school year?
Do you have any useful advice?

a Think and plan

• First, think about this school year. What were the best things for you? Think about memorable events
or activities, subjects that you enjoyed, interesting things you learned and achievements you’re proud
of.
• What recommendations do you have for your friend about the year? What should / shouldn’t your
friend do?

b Practise your presentation with a partner. Remember to make eye contact and speak slowly and
clearly. Be honest but respectful when giving feedback to your partner. Help each other with your
English but remember that it doesn’t need to be perfect.

c Now do your presentation or create your voice message. (Your teacher will tell you which one of
these to do.) Talk about your school year.

Specific Competence 3: Spoken Interaction
2 Work in pairs. Imagine you are talking at break time. Practise a conversation with the information
below.

Student A: You aren’t feeling well. Decide what the problem is (e.g. you’ve got a headache, your back
hurts, you fell, etc.).
Student B: Ask how Student A feels. Express sympathy and offer some advice.
Student A: Thank Student B for listening and for the advice.
Student B: Respond to the thanks.

First, think about what you want to say. Then, practise the conversation with the appropriate key
phrases. Change roles.

Remember: Use a sad tone of voice when you express sympathy.

Specific Competence 4: Mediation

3 Imagine you have received the text message below from an English-speaking friend telling you how to
make a dessert. You think it sounds delicious, and you want to tell a family member about it. Read the
message and then explain how to make the dessert in your own language. Say:
• what ingredients you need
• the instructions

You HAVE to try this! You’ll need bananas, ice

cream, fresh strawberries and some chocolate
sauce. Make sure you have one banana for each
person. The first step is to remove the skin from
each banana, put the banana on a plate, and cut
it down the middle. Then take some ice cream
and put it on top. You can use any kind of ice
cream. Then cut the strawberries and put them
on top. The final step is to put some chocolate
sauce on top. Enjoy!
