Citations Assignment

1) An academic citation is how another individuals work is referenced in your own work. It
allows the reader to know that this writing belongs to someone else. Lack of citation
indicates that you are trying to take credit for someone else’s work.
2) Citations are critical within writing to ensure that your writing is credible. Including
citations allows the reader to understand where the information came from, and it
ensures that the writer is not plagiarising another individuals work.
3) The APA style of citations is a particular way of creating citations. It is a way of letting a
reader know that something written is not your own idea as well as avoiding plagiarism.
It includes the author’s last name and the year of publication, and sometimes the page
number should also be included.
4) An in-text citation is a citation that is included within the reading, rather than just a link
at the end of the reading or project. An in-text citation includes the authors name
followed by a comma, and then the year of publication. Occasionally, the page number
is also included following the year.
5) Places for finding assistance with citations include the Mount Royal Library website,
student learning services workshops, Owl Purdue University Online Writing Lab, and
APA citation generators.

6) Lionel Messi, one of the greatest soccer players of all time, has recently ended his career
with the team FC Barcelona where he achieved many great things. During his career
with Barcelona, he won six Ballon d’Or trophies, and scored 672 goals in all 778 games
(Outlook, 2021) he had played while wearing a Barcelona jersey. Messi now begins his
career with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) where he will continue to achieve great things.
Messi was supposed to remain with Barcelona under a five-year contract; however, due
to “financial and structural obstacles” this contract was unable to be fulfilled (Sky
Sports, 2021). Everyone within the PSG club is very excited for the addition of Messi to
their club because they are confident that he will be an excellent contribution for PSG.
