Introduction
Early uses of the term social problem are found in the writings of 19th-century
intellectuals, including John Stuart Mill, the British philosopher who coined the
phrase. For decades, “the” social problem—defined generally as that of resolving
social conflict and creating a better society—was a common subject of debate,
scholarship, and journalism in European and American literary culture. The idea of
multiple social problems arose toward the end of the 19th century, as sociologists,
social workers, and social reformers tended to frame their work in terms of the
narrative of studying and solving society’s problems.
Since the late 20th century, the increased colloquial use of issue as a synonym for
problem has led social issue to become a common synonym for social problem.
While in some contexts issue has connotations that distinguish it from problem,
within sociology and related fields the two terms are effectively synonymous. In
everyday speech, social issue is occasionally used distinctly from social problem to
identify a general topic of public discussion or debate.
Social Issues
What are Social Issues?
A social issue, sometimes known as a social problem, is a state of things that has a
detrimental impact on the personal or social lives of individuals, as well as the well-
being of communities or larger groups within a society, and about which there is
frequently public dispute about the nature, causes, or remedy. The terms social issue
and social problem are commonly used interchangeably.
A social issue is one that affects many citizens in a society. It is an ongoing problem
in today's culture, and many individuals are striving to solve it. It can frequently be
the result of factors beyond an individual's control.
Social issues are the root of conflicting opinions on what is ethically correct or
erroneous personal or interpersonal social life decisions.
2. Social inequality
"The state or quality of being unequal" is social inequality. When a person's treatment
is influenced by criteria like gender, age, race, or handicap, inequality is at the basis
of many societal issues. Africans who were brought to America were frequently
treated cruelly and as slaves, and they did not have the same rights as the country's
white citizens (they could not vote, for example). Slavery in the United States is a
historical illustration of inequality as a societal issue.
A few civil rights movements have made an effort to advance equality and extend
rights to underrepresented groups, and they frequently succeeded in doing so. The
civil rights movement in the United States for African-American equality (starting
around the 1920s) and the women's rights movement (beginning around the 1950s).
3.Work and occupations
Theft, sexual harassment, pay inequity, gender inequality, racial inequality, health
care inequities, and many other social issues exist in the workplace. Employees
frequently experience interpersonal conflict, communication concerns (such as
gossip), bullying, harassment, and discrimination, as well as low motivation and job
satisfaction and performance problems.
As dicussed above there are various reasons for social problems or issues to arise, A
social problem emerges when a social entity (such as a social change group, the news
media, or influential politicians) begins to call attention to a condition or behavior
that it perceives to be undesirable and in need of remedy. It makes an effort to sway
how the public views the issue, its causes, and potential remedies as part of this
process. This part of Stage 1 is known as the claims-making process since the social
entity is asserting claims on all of these issues. A social problem does not always
occur when attempts to transform a circumstance or behavior into a social problem
fail. Some social entities have a higher chance of success than others at this point
based on the resources they do or do not have. Few common people have little impact
on society, while large numbers of people who participate in political activism or
other forms of protest have a greater capacity to contribute to the emergence of social
problems.
We can control social issues through Universal education, social reform, Democracy,
constitution, good legal system and a good law enforcing agencies. Economic
Development and Employment can help in resolving Social Issues.
Conclusion
The conclusion of any topic matters on its body and introduction. Whether it
may be a research paper on social issues or any essay on Social Issues the
conclusion is derived from the above mentioned data or arguments.
In such a case,it may be concluded that social issues are problems which affect
the individuals lives. In our lives social Issues exist in all forms in all societies.
Social issues cannot be eliminated the only aproach is to solve as many of them
as much as possible.
