Training Methods Cognitive Session 10 Part II Batch 86
• E-training or e-learning offers a stimulating environment where the learner can learn at his own pace.
• The learner can think, respond and give feedback on the subject.
• A learner can take the course at his convenience without any expense of time or travel.
• E-Training or E-learning is also cost-effective for the learner as he is accessible to the widest audience as
well as trainers at multi-locations.
• It can be customized as per specific requirement of the industries, and can also be conveniently used by
the differently- abled or special learners, as they can access the learning from the comfort of their
homes.
• E-Training as well as CBTs also save organizations instructor costs, costs of arranging training and travel
and learners travel costs and time.
• Busy professionals can get their certifications without the hassle of travelling to a classroom.
• Through CBTs, employees can keep abreast with ever changing technology.
• E-training, CBT, and the like, breaks down complex software into bite sized modules for easy and quick
understanding.
• Web-based-Training (WBT) is a subset of CBTs in which the material is made accessible on the
Internet by applying Web technologies. For example, typically, it has text and graphics, animation,
audio and video, and needs additional bandwidth and software to work optimally. WBT is also
referred to as ‘online courses’ and ‘Web-based instruction’.
• It presents the latest content of any topic that can be modified and is set in a framework of self-
directed and self-paced instruction. It can also be evaluated and adapted, without a computer
platform.
• The training may be individual or in a group, as the case may be.
• Enables to track performance of participants as well as rich analytics and insights; also gives
timely feedback of the progress or learners can be found of. Today e-learning enables the participants
to study anywhere and at any time.
• E-training offers the ability to share material in all kinds of formats. Games, videos, slideshow
are all part of an online teacher‘s e-learning tools.
MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses): There are free online programs that several colleges offer.
Even some of the world‘s most famous and prestigious universities use them e.g. Course or Future
learn, llMBx. IIMB started offering massive open online courses (MOOCs) in 2014 through its digital
learning initiative, IIMBx, in partnership with edX — a not-for-profit online initiative of Harvard and
MIT. Apart from edX, the program offers courses on its own platform, IIMBx, and SWAYAM.
A. Blogging
B. Sticky notes
C. Shared documents
D. Concept-mapping, Mind mapping, info graph tools
E. Comprehensive activity tools
E-sim: eSim is an open source EDA tool for circuit design, simulation, analysis and PCB design.
DWSIM: DWSIM allows chemical engineering students and practicing engineers to model process plants by using
rigorous thermodynamic and unit operations models.
PLC: Provides training and skilling for PLCs.
SBHS: The single board heater system (SBHS) is a lab-in-a-box setup useful for teaching and learning control
systems.
R: R is a language and environment for statistical computing and graphics.
QGIS: QGIS (Quantum GIS) is a desktop Geographic Information System (GIS) application.
PYTHON: Easy to read and learn, useful for scientific computing.

1. The first is linear and it's how Skinner's teaching machines presented material. According to this
model, the content is divided into a sequence of small and unchanged steps, where learners respond
at their own pace and are immediately provided with the results.
Intelligent Tutoring System Intelligent tutoring system (ITS) is a computer-based system that aims to
provide immediate and customized instruction or feedback to train the Trainees. ITSs (have the common
goal of enabling learning in a meaningful and effective manner by using a variety of computing
technologies. There are many examples of ITSs being used in both formal education and professional
settings in which they have demonstrated their capabilities and limitations. There is a close relationship
between intelligent tutoring, cognitive learning theories and design; and there is ongoing research to
improve the effectiveness of ITS. An ITS typically aims
to replicate the demonstrated benefits of one-to-one,
personalized tutoring, in contexts where students would
otherwise have access to one-to-many instruction from a
single teacher (e.g., classroom lectures), or no teacher at
all (e.g., online homework). ITSs are often designed with
the goal of providing access to high quality education to
each and every student.
Virtual Reality (Virtual reality (VR) is the use of computer modelling and
simulation that enables a person to interact with an artificial three-
dimensional (3-D) visual or other sensory environment. VR applications
immerse the user in a computer-generated environment that simulates
reality through the use of interactive devices, which send and receive
information and are worn as goggles, headsets, gloves, or body suits-)
In a typical VR format, a user wearing a helmet with a stereoscopic
screen views animated images of a simulated environment. The illusion
of 'being there' (tele-presence) is effected by motion sensors that pick
up the user's movements and adjust the view on the screen
accordingly, usually in real time (the instant the user's movement takes
place). Thus, a user can tour a simulated suite of rooms, experiencing
changing viewpoints and perspectives that are convincingly related to
his own head turnings and steps. Wearing data gloves equipped with
force-feedback devices that provide the sensation of touch, the user
can even pick up and manipulate objects that he sees in the virtual
environment.
LMS can be applied in a very simple system but also in complex distributed environments. LMS
learning management systems integrate tools for implementing a virtual classroom.
• To be effective, the e-training must be engaging and value adding for trainees’
knowledge or skill base. It must impart skills they can put to use in the workplace. The
objectives of the e-training program have to be aligned with the overall goals of the
company. If the program results in better productivity and revenue, only then it is
successful. Taking inputs from the management as well as trainee groups is
important to find out the real objective of the program.
• A lot of meticulous attention has to be paid while going for the detailing part
and designing the training program. Getting feedback from employees on
possible course content and platform on which it will be distributed is important.
Some of the tips while designing and developing the content is as follows:
• Research the instructional design models- The question is "Why is it crucial to use an Instructional
Design Model? The answer is simple. Because using an Instructional Design Model you will ensure that
learning is more safe, certain, thorough, and expeditious than otherwise. At the same time, you will
facilitate the learning process, as learners will require less time, incur less risk, and invest less energy
than those who learned from the raw world without assistance. Thus, do a good research of the
instructional design models before starting with the work.
• Use Of Interaction- Interaction is the most important aspect of an e-Learning course. However, you
should know why you use interaction and what you want to achieve. Moore (1989) believes that
interaction is a central component of online education, and he describes 3 types of interaction:
a) Learner to Content The "learner to content" interaction refers to the interaction between the online
learner and the content or subject matter. Moore believes that if a learner interacts with the
content or subject matter, then changes in the learner's understanding occur.
b) Learner to Instructor The "learner to instructor" interaction refers to the interaction between the
online learner and an instructor, tutor, mentor, or content expert. The second type of interaction
occurs via print, electronic dialog, e-mail, computer conferencing, or electronic online classroom
discussions.
• Choose The Right Educational Technology- Learning becomes more effective when people are
mutually active with the learning materials, with the learning environment. Learning, by
manufacturing innovative materials for other learners and by communicating with them about
these materials, enhance their learning abilities. For example, the three types of interaction are
built in the following ways to accomplish certain learning objectives:
Analysis Of Data
Based on the constructive feedback from the learners as well as observers, the
e-Learning course
needs to be revised.
