Module 7 Activity No 2

The document provides a problem on calculating dimensions of an automobile clutch and brake system given various parameters of the engine, clutch, and friction surfaces. It asks to determine: 1) The inside and outside diameter of the clutch disc, which are calculated to be 147.47 mm and 232.53 mm respectively. 2) The clutch face width, which is calculated to be 42.53 mm. 3) The problem provides the engine power, rpm, clutch plate diameter, coefficient of friction, and normal stress and asks the reader to use equations of torque, axial force, and normal stress to solve for the missing diameters and width.

Exercises Problem on Brakes and Clutches

Name: Loyd Benz Dy

Student No. 20171110159

Problem:

An automobile engine develops 32.5 HP at 1000 rpm. The clutch used to transmit this
power has 2 pairs of friction surfaces. If the coefficient of friction is 0.4, the mean
diameter of the plate is 190 mm and the normal stress on the clutch lining is 120 kPa,
determine:

a. The inside and outside diameter of the disc,

b. the clutch face width.
