ABSTRACT
This internship covers duration of two months activities carried out at Jinja Nile Resort in
kimaka, jinja district. Chapter one talks about the introduction of internship, objectives of
internship, historical background of jinja Nile resort, description of the field attachment, its
organizational structure, departments, a sketch map showing the location of the hotel and the
management of the hotel. Chapter two covers the materials and methods used in the field to
achieve my internship objectives, chapter three presents a clear discussion and results as well
as the discussion of results attained from my two month industrial training basing on the
internship objectives. Chapter four summaries the skills learnt and how they are relevant to
my professional and carrier growth and the evaluation of the strength, weaknesses,
opportunities and threats of the hotel. Chapter five covers the conclusions and
recommendations.

CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
An internship is a professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical work
related to a student’s field of study or career interest. It gives a student the opportunity for
career exploration and development, and to learn new skills.

1.1 OBJECTIVES OF INTERNSHIP


 To get acquainted with tourism and hospitality industry enterprises and organizations.
 To understand peculiarities of their operations and the role of team and carrying out their
activities.
 To develop ability to blend into a team, understand structure, and operations of
enterprise.
 To develop the capacity of analyzing, assessing and developing suggestions for business
improvement.

1.2 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF JINJA NILE RESORT.


Jinja Nile Resort was established by Kasgwa Harry 6, it is a property of MADA HOLDINGS
LIMITED and becomes the first of its kind in Uganda in the year 1999 under the ownership
of Tarlochan Mhajan as the chief executive then later to Tinu Mhajan when Tarlochan died in
the year 2004.
The resort rests on the magnificent river Bank and offers a magnificent view of the River Nile
and rich in fauna and flora. The present building was opened in 2012. It is also a 4 star hotel
with enough facilities to accommodate different categories and class of guests. Since it was
opened, it has hosted many international and inbound guests for conferences.
Jinja Nile Resort acts as a training school and continues to offer training facilities and
welcomes internship programs to students in the hospitality schools within the country.
Jinja Nile Resort is located on Plot No. M-130 of Kimaka, a long Kimaka Budongo road, and
4km away from Jinja town and 80km away from Uganda’s Capital City Kampala, two hours’
drive from Entebbe international airport and less than five minutes’ drive from kimaka
airstrip. Both the famous Bujagali falls and the source of the Nile are only 4kms from the
resort.
Set on over 30 acres on the banks of the river Nile, Jinja Nile resort commands a strategic
location providing a panoramic view of the great river Nile (the longest river in the world).
