SECTION E- CASE STUDY


32 A hot air balloon has three major parts: the basket, the burner, and the envelope. The
basket is where passengers ride. The burner is positioned above the passenger's heads.
The envelope is the colourful fabric balloon that holds the hot air. The pilot can control
the up and-down movements of the hot air balloon.

i. Explain the mode of heat transfer exhibited by hot air


balloon.
ii. Air conditioners are installed near the ceiling of the
room. Give reason.

33 Leaves are the food factories of plants. So we find that chlorophyll, sunlight, carbon
dioxide and water are necessary to carry out the process of photosynthesis. It is a
unique process on the earth. The solar energy is captured by the leaves and stored in
the plant in the form of food. Thus, sun is the ultimate source of energy for all living
organisms.

A) How do the leaves capture the sunlight energy?


B) Plants are considered an essential part of earth as they keep a check on lot of process
occurring all over. What would happen if all the green plants are wiped from earth?

34 The heating effect of current is obtained by the transformation of electrical energy into
heat energy. The heat produced in a conductor, when a current flow through it is found
to depend directly on (a) strength of current (b) resistance of the conductor (c) time for
which the current flows. The electrical fuse, electrical heater, electric iron, electric geyser,
etc. all are based on the heating effect of current.
