Preface
This document describes the prerequisites, import method, and display
information for dashboards customized for the VMware vRealize Operations
Manager to display Hitachi storage device performance information collected
by the Hitachi Storage Management Pack for VMware vRealize Operations
storage adapter. This document does not describe how to configure the
vSphere environment or the Hitachi storage system management software,
nor does it describe how to install the Hitachi Storage Management Pack, all of
which are required prior to using the storage adapter dashboard. For
assistance in completing the prerequisite system configuration, contact your
vSphere environment administrator, Hitachi storage system management
software administrator, or your VM administrator.

This document also includes troubleshooting information for issues occurring

while using the Hitachi storage adapter. Your VM administrator can use the
information contained in this document to pinpoint the cause of the issue. If
the cause of the issue is on the Hitachi storage adapter side, contact Hitachi
Storage Adapter support; however, if the cause is found in the vSphere
environment or with the Hitachi storage system management software,
contact the appropriate administrator to verify the environment, investigate
the cause, and resolve the issue.

10 Preface

Hitachi Storage Management Pack for VMware vRealize Operations Dashboard User's Guide
Overview
The Hitachi Storage Adapter dashboard is a VMware vRealize Operations
Manager dashboard customized to display Hitachi storage system performance
information collected by the storage adapter. Each dashboard view is
described in Displaying a Dashboard.

The system requirements, limitations, and product package contents are

described below.
 System Requirements
 Limitations and Considerations
 Product Package Contents

Overview 11

Hitachi Storage Management Pack for VMware vRealize Operations Dashboard User's Guide
System Requirements
The prerequisite system requirements that must be met to import and display
the expected information on the dashboard is described below.

The storage adapter dashboard requires that the Hitachi Storage Management
Pack be installed and is operating normally; thus, all system requirements for
the Hitachi Storage Management Pack must be met as described in the Hitachi
Storage Management Pack for VMware vRealize Operations User’s Guide.

Hardware Prerequisites
Refer to Hitachi Storage Management Pack for VMware vRealize Operations
User’s Guide.

Software Prerequisites
The requirements which are not described in the Hitachi Storage Management
Pack for VMware vRealize Operations User's Guide are described below.

Hitachi Storage Management Pack for VMware vRealize Operations

The Hitachi Storage Management Pack for VMware vRealize Operations must
be installed and the performance information already collected.

VMware Tools

Some dashboards refer to VM metrics which were created by VMware Tools.

Accordingly, VMware Tools must be installed and operated on the virtual
machine that VMware vCenter Operations Manager monitors. For the details
about the metrics, see Displaying a Dashboard. The table below lists the
software requirements for VMware Tools.

Metric collection

Make sure that all the metrics to be displayed in a dashboard have been
collected before importing the dashboard. See Displaying a Dashboard for
descriptions of each dashboard view.

Note There must be one or more datastores by Dynamic Provisioning Volume

within the vSphere environment that is being monitored. If all datastores
are created with Physical Logical Devices, dashboards cannot be applied.

18 Importing Dashboards

Hitachi Storage Management Pack for VMware vRealize Operations Dashboard User's Guide
Installing and running VMware Tools
Because some dashboards refer to metrics created by VMware Tools, when you
use the dashboard, you must install and run VMware Tools on the virtual
machine that the VMware vRealize Operations Manager is monitoring. For
dashboards requiring installation and running of VMware Tools, see When
importing a dashboard. For the installation method of VMware Tools, refer to
the installation and setup guide for the vSphere environment.

Collecting information using the Hitachi Storage

Management Pack
Most of the information on the dashboard is collected by Hitachi Storage
Management Pack. Accordingly, the Hitachi Storage Management Pack is
installed on vRealize Operations, a Hitachi Storage Management Pack instance
is created, then the collection of the performance information of the target
storage system is started. See the Hitachi Storage Management Pack for
VMware vRealize Operations User's Guide for the installation method of the
Hitachi Storage Management Pack and the creation of a Hitachi Storage
Management Pack instance.

Importing a super metric

Some dashboards use super metrics. Accordingly, when you use the
dashboard, you need to import super metrics and allocate it to the designated
resource in advance. For dashboards requiring importing and allocating of
super metrics, see When importing a dashboard.

The import method of super metrics is shown as follows.

1. Log in to vRealize Operations Manager interface with an administrator’s
account.
2. Click Home in the upper part of the left pane.
3. Select Content from the option listed in the left pane.
4. Select Super Metrics from the option listed in the left pane.
5. Click Actions in the upper part of the right pane.
6. Select Import Super Metric from the drop-down list. The Import Super
Metric window is displayed.
7. Click Browse in the Import Super Metric window and select super metrics
file.
8. Click Done button in the Import Super Metric window. The Import Super
Metrics window closes and the imported super metric name is displayed in
the window. For the display of super metric names, see When importing a
dashboard.

Importing Dashboards 19

Hitachi Storage Management Pack for VMware vRealize Operations Dashboard User's Guide
Applying a super metric
Super metrics are applied to the resource in order to collect the imported super
metrics. The application procedure for super metrics to the resource is shown
as below.
1. Click Home in the upper part of the left pane.
2. Select Content from the options listed in the left pane.
3. Select Super Metrics from the options listed in the left pane.
4. Select an applying super metric from the super metrics displayed in the
right pane and click Add Object Type on Object Type tab of lower part of
the display. The Select Object Type window is displayed.
5. In the Select Object Type window, click the drop-down arrow icon to
show a list of object types. From the list of object types under Hitachi
Storage Management Pack, select an object type to apply to a super metric.
6. Click Select in the Select Object Type window. The Select Object Type
window is closed.
7. Click Home in the upper part of the left pane.
8. Select Administration from the options listed in the left pane.
9. Select Policies from the options listed in the left pane.
10. Select Policy Library tab in the upper part of the right pane. Select the
policy that is currently being used and click Edit Selected Policy icon. The
Edit Monitoring Policy window is displayed.
11. Select 4. Override Attributes on the left side of Edit Monitoring Policy
window.
12. Select Attribute Type in the right upper part of the Edit Monitoring Policy
window, Uncheck Metric and Property. Leave Supermetric check.
13. Select Actions in the right upper part of the Edit Monitoring Policy window,
and select Enable
14. Select Save in the Edit Monitoring Policy window. The Edit Monitoring Policy
window is closed.

Importing a dashboard file

The dashboard file must be imported to display the defined dashboard in the
dashboard window. The dashboard file import procedure is shown below.
1. Click Home in the upper part of the left pane.
2. Select Content from the option listed in the left pane.
3. Click Actions in the upper part of the right pane.
4. Select Import Dashboards from the drop-down list. The Import
