Reflection On My Learning Experience.
Reflection On My Learning Experience.
Being a nursing student has been an exciting journey filled with learning experiences.
Last week, I got the chance to dive into two important aspects in nursing: narrative nursing
documentation and Caputi clinical judgment competences. I want to share what I've learned in
simple terms, how I've blended this new knowledge with what I already knew, where I have
found some areas that I need to work on, my plan to get better in those areas, and the good things
that came out of this experience.
First off, I've discovered that using a nursing narrative documentation and clinical
judgment competences are powerful tools in nursing. It's not just about writing down the facts in
a patient's chart; it's about having a sequence in a specific order. For example, date and time,
patient’s name, subjective and objective data, assessment, intervention, and evaluation. Doing
this, will help the nurse to obtain a detailed report about the patient, and provide better care for
the patient.
Incorporating this fresh knowledge into what I already had in my nursing toolkit was a bit
of a challenge. I was used to taking quick notes with basic information during clinicals. But now,
I've learned to slow down and think on how applying this new knowledge will benefit the
patients and team members. It did take some practice, but my charts are now more detailed, and
they help the healthcare team understand the patient's situation better.
However, I also realized that I have some weaknesses, especially when it comes to
clinical judgment. It's not always easy to make quick decisions in the fast-paced world of
nursing. Sometimes, I find myself unsure about what to do when faced with complex situations,
and that can be stressful.
To work on my weakness in clinical judgment, I've got a plan. First, I will reach out my
instructor and other experienced nurses for advice. They've been there and done that, and they
can offer some valuable guidance. I'm also making it a habit to look back at homework and case
studies where I had made mistakes. This helps me to practice, learn, and get better at making the
right calls in the future. Plus, I will participate in simulations and case studies to practice my
clinical judgment skills since Practice is the key to improvement.
Despite the challenges and my areas for improvement, there have been some positive
outcomes from this learning experience. I submitted my patient evaluation assignment for my
Mental Health class applying these new skills and I got positive feedback from my instructor. My
more detailed notes in documentation help me to get a good score in my assignment. Also, I am
using narrative nursing documentation and Caputi clinical judgment competences to write my
care plans for this semester which it will be the perfect opportunity to demonstrate how much
improvement I have achieve by using these methods.
On a personal note, I feel more confident as a nursing student. Knowing that I can make a
positive difference through better documentation and improved clinical judgment gives me a real
sense of accomplishment.
In conclusion, my journey with nursing: narrative nursing documentation and Caputi clinical
judgment competences has been an essential part on my nursing education. I have learned how
powerful and important it is the application of these methods in the nursing career. It helped me
to improve my documentation skills, identify areas where I need to grow in clinical judgment
and start taking steps to get better. The positive outcomes such as proper documentation skills
and increased self-confidence, have made this learning experience incredible rewarding. I am
more determined than ever to keep growing as a nursing student and, one day, as a registered
nurse.
