^All sanctioned education abroad programs are *potentially* credit-bearing:

Course Credit Alignment: Students are responsible for initiating the course alignment process.
Depending on foreknowledge of the program, this means in some cases students may have a good idea
of the credit they would receive before they even apply for a program, while in other cases they may not
know until after they have enrolled in a course on-site (since they may not even know what classes will
be available, and can only then begin the course alignment process).

This is further complicated when students delay initiating the course alignment process, potentially even
delaying until after they return to find out what (if any) UConn course credit they’ll receive.

In short: For many exchange and affiliated programs, there is no guarantee when applying that a
program will provide the credit a student wants, and in many cases the student only finds out what
credit they’ll receive once the program is underway.

The course alignment process:

1. Student sends course materials (syllabus, etc) or to Education Abroad

2. Education Abroad determines which department the course falls under and forwards materials
to that department.
3. Chosen department determines which, if any, UConn credit to assign to the course.

Worth noting: Students can’t request specific course alignments, or even alignment with a specific
department.
Faculty-Led Program Fees
UConn Programs charge program fees, NOT tuition. As a result, you may use the following forms of
financial aid:

 Federal Pell Grant

 SEOG
 Federal Direct Stafford Loans (Subsidized and Unsubsidized)
 Federal Direct Plus Loans
 Private scholarships

You may not use the following forms of financial aid:

 Federal Work-Study
 University Grant
 Roberta B. Willis Scholarship or Grant
 Tuition Waiver
 Merit Scholarships (such as Day of Pride, Nutmeg, Presidential, Leadership and Academic
Excellence Scholarship)

Fee-Based Programs charge Program Fees, not UConn tuition. Program Fees will appear on students’
UConn fee bills, along with other UConn fees as listed below.

Direct-Bill Programs charge students directly for their program costs. Students pay the affiliate program
directly for their fees, whereas other UConn fees will appear on students’ UConn fee bills as listed
below. Be sure to review the program’s full costs on the provider’s own website. UConn is not
responsible for those costs.

Study abroad students must all pay the following fees:

$25 application fee for each program applied to.
 Education Abroad Fee ($475)
 Technology Fee (varies)
 Continuous Enrollment Fee (varies)
 Infrastructure Fee (varies)
