A disappointing meal at a restaurant

My husband and I live in a small town about two miles from the sea. We were very excited
when a new seafood restaurant opened. We booked a table. It was the first night. To drink, we
ordered some tap water and a bottle of white wine. To eat, we both ordered moules
mariniere. It came with bread or French fries. We chose bread. The waiter apologised and
explained that actually, there was no bread. However, he said he was going to get some from
the Asda supermarket. We thought that was strange! He left immediately and came back after
about ten minutes. He was carrying a loaf of sliced white bread. We hoped for nice crusty
bread, so we felt disappointed. He brought the water and wine. They were warm! We asked
for some ice but he didn’t bring any. Then he served our bowls of mussels. We were shocked
because all the shells were closed. If you cook mussels, you must throw away any which do not
open. We called the waiter back over and we told him: ‘Excuse me, but all the mussels are
closed’. ‘That’s no problem’, he replied, ‘I will bring a sharp knife and I will open them for you.’
At that point, we decided to go somewhere else. We paid for the wine and left. Three weeks
later, the new seafood restaurant closed. We were not surprised.
